Chalkboard Message Board

Hi There!
My name is Dee, and I blog at Meatloaf and Melodrama, where I share DIY projects, thrifty crafts and easy meal ideas. As a mom to five kids, I'm all about saving money, and I was so thrilled when Danielle asked me to share one of my frugal projects with all of you!
I love chalkboard art, and I've learned that you can make almost anything into a chalkboard with some chalkboard paint. One day, I found some summer chargers that were on clearance at Michael's, and although I had no use for them as they were, I knew I could turn them into message boards.

I love sunflowers, and when I saw this scratched, orange charger, I knew it would make a cute sunflower with a little bit of paint.

After two coats of yellow spray paint, the charger was already looking better, but of course, I couldn't stop there!

I applied some generic chalkboard paint to the center, and voila -- a sunflower! Because the charger is so lightweight, you can easily take it outside for cookouts. It's still hot here, so right now, it's busy adding some cheer to my kitchen counter.

I also bought a purple charger, and I thought I would make a cute message board for my teens' room.

The teens love the combination of aqua and black, so I spray painted this one an aqua shade and added the black chalkboard paint to the center.

Isn't this a cute message board? You could also jazz it up with a ribbon or bow, but my girls liked it without any extra frills.

Best of all, the chargers were only 99 cents each, and because I already had the paint in my stash, this was definitely a cheap frugal craft!
Thanks for letting me share this craft with you today. You can visit me at Meatloaf and Melodrama any time! And, thank you, Danielle, for having me on your blog!
XO Dee
