A Day in the Life of Brandi...

Good Morning Lovelies! Today you are invited to spend a day in the life of her.

You know that gal who you might think has it all together. The mama who seems to do it all. Well guess what? She doesn't. Let's fight those lies. This new series is an effort to get rid of the "super mom" image that we all make for ourselves in our heads. It is a time to inspire one another even more. We do not have to always have it together to be good moms, wives, and women in sisterhood!

I have invited some wonderful women to share their story with us and to be real with y'all. They will share their struggles, their victories, their frustrations, their joys, and everything in between. It may not be glamorous, but it is real and real is absolutely beautiful

Come walk a bit in the shoes of another....

------------------------------
Hi everyone! I am super excited to be showing you a day in my life, although I must warn you....these images are the real deal! But first, a little about me. I am a 35 year old sew at home mom. I have been a Registered Nurse for over 10 years, but left the work force last Thanksgiving to be at home with my son, Logan, who is 2 1/2 yrs old. I am married to a wonderful man who is a Nurse Practitioner at our local medical clinic. (I bet you can guess where we met!) We have been together for nearly 12 years and married for almost 6. Since I've been home, I've started sewing and embroidering and have been so blessed with the amount of business I've been getting, though I still struggle with trying to get my work done without taking too much time away from baby boy. Our days are crazy, but I feel like I'm right where God has called me to be. And so....here is our day. I picked a typical Tuesday with lots of sewing and housework to be done. Y'all excuse the mess!

7:00- I wake up in Logan's Mickey Mouse bed. It took us forever to get him to sleep in it, and to break the habit of him crawling into our bed every night I will usually go to him if he wakes up. The idea is to settle him and then go back to bed. But, yeah. I'm tired. This happens a lot.
Sorry it's blurry, but that's how I saw it too. No coffee yet. Then, as it usually goes, I change Logan out of his pull up and into his big boy underwear, let the dog out, make Logan a cup of chocolate milk, feed the cats and the dog, let the dog in, and make myself a cup of coffee. Finally, at 7:25 I settle in for morning snuggle time where I can check Facebook, email, and Etsy, drink my coffee, and snuggle with the little guy while he watches cartoons. This is one of my favorite times of the day!

-- Here's Logan and Special Agent Oso getting started without me. 7:50 Logan asks for a PB and J sandwich for breakfast and gets mad because I won't let him eat Doritos with it. The dog gets the sandwich while I'm in the bathroom. Dog 1 - Mama 0. 8:30 I change out of my pajamas, but only because I need to go to the mailbox and don't want anyone to see me bra-less. Usually, I just try to change before husband comes home for lunch so it doesn't look like I've been in my pajamas all day. True story. 8:45 I decide to get some laundry going before I break out the embroidery machine for the day's projects. Lucky me (mostly), Logan likes to help. You're welcome, future Mrs. Logan!!

Then, embroidery gets underway. I try to only sew in the mornings so I can spend the afternoons with the baby. Some days it works, some days not.

Logan colors (for about 5 minutes) while mommy sews...

...then proceeds to tear the house apart. At about 9:30, Logan finally goes #2 in the potty! Yay!!! This is after 5 false alarm trips. But hey! I'll take it!! We had to make a video to send to daddy in celebration of our accomplishment.

P.S. When we go to the bathroom, we ALL go to the bathroom. Don't ask me why. It's some sort of natural phenomenon.
Around 10:30, Logan gets a time out for chasing poor Dixie (the dog) around the living room with a plastic golf club. Not cool.

At 11:15, the second shirt in my order was off center, and that was my last piece of stabilizer. I'm dead in the water for the day. And I have 10 more orders due before I go out of town in a couple of weeks. This makes me sweat and feel slightly nauseated.

Oh well. Guess I'll clean house until husband gets here for lunch.

12:30 Finally get the boss down for his nap. I still have to rock him to sleep. Otherwise it's a 3 hour process. It takes a lot of time out of my day and can be very frustrating when he won't go down. I just keep telling myself that one day, I will wish he would let me hold him again. (I have to believe it to keep from going insane!)

But Oh, he's so sweet when he's sleeping! He usually sleeps about an hour. I can use this time to do things that I can't get done with him underfoot. Except he only sleeps about 35 min, so by the time I finish eating lunch, he's up and I get ZERO accomplished. I ended up holding him the last 45 min while he slept. I would say his sleep pattern has been one of the hardest challenges we've faced as parents. 2:00 The chief is up and at it. He still hasn't eaten, so I make him some pizza rolls. The dog gets those too. Dog 2 - Mama 0. 2:30 Do a few chores while waiting on the heat of the day to pass so we can go outside to play. This south Alabama heat and humidity is no joke, y'all! The high today is 95 with a heat index of red hot magma. So, I vacuum (again), wash dishes, and work on a crochet order that needs to be shipped two days ago. 3:30 We finally make it outside. It's still 256 degrees outside. I really try to get him out a little every day. But it's hot, and I'm fat, and I don't like it. But here we go anyway. Little man wants to ride the 4-wheeler.

I let him ride around to the back side of our property which is a hot walk for mama, but it's really a beautiful day out (besides me melting into a puddle). This is one of my favorite views.
When we get back to our yard, Logan wants to play in the sprinkler. It's too hot to do much else, so why not?

We head back in about 4:45 when the usual afternoon thuderstorms start to gather. Logan is now starving after feeding the dog all his food today. Supper isn't even close, so chicken nuggets it is!

He actually ate these! Dog 2 - Mama 1 I'm on the scoreboard!!! One thing I really try to do is cook for my family. Tonight's menu is Pork Chops Diane with a yummy pan sauce served over egg noodles, sweet peas, and homemade yeast rolls. At least a hot meal makes me feel like I've accomplished something today.

Logan dug both his hands into the flour bin so he could "help" make the rolls.

Once we eat, it's a downhill ride to bedtime. I put away the food and clean the kitchen while daddy gives Logan his bath. (Best. Dad. Ever.) Then we get baths, and I rock the big guy to sleep. If I'm really lucky, he will go down easily and we will have a little quiet time to ourselves before we have to call it a day. Today, we are really lucky. This has definitely been one of our better days. Only one time out, a #2 in the potty, and some sprinkler time! Although I am tragically behind on my embroidery orders, I feel like the time with Logan was well spent. This day had some successes and failures, just like every other day. I sincerely try to find joy in the little moments of each day. I fall into bed exhausted, and thank the Lord for my home, my health, and my family. Amen!!
