Making room for the holidays: one closet at a time

The new year is seriously going to be here before we know it. Did that just make you wanna throw up a little? It does me. So I have been stepping up my organization around the house and I thought I would update on the big boys closet after a clean out session this week.
Each year right around Thanksgiving I try and take the down time in-between the holidays to get Oliver's closet a bit more organized to make room for new toys & clothes. When I lived in Baltimore and called professional organizing my career, my specialty was custom closets. So even though this is a rental, I try and create that same customized feel in our closets and have been adapting the big boys closest little by little.

Olly's closet in particular has to serve multiple purposes... clothing, toys, books, and even storage for extra bedding is necessary since this is a smaller house with even less storage space.

Thankfully, the organizing fairy helped me to find an inexpensive closet organizer, which luckily already matched the existing shelves. It has been the perfect way to store his toys and make use of some unused vertical space. And let's face it. Homeboy doesn't need both sides of the closet for clothing and if he did at this age, I should be committed and my wallet should quickly be taken away.

Making this progress towards organizational enlightenment has made me feel like a new woman going into the next few weeks. Which we all know are sure to be crazy and fun filled with all of the holiday whirlwind that consumes us every year.

There is just something about kids toys that takes me to my happy place, and before you know it I feel like I need to "decorate" the closet shelves with all the beautiful bright colors. Too bad that only lasts for five minutes before little fingers start to play with it. Does anyone else get on a cleaning out and organizing spree before the holidays? The holidays are so wonderfully hectic, why do we do this to ourselves ladies?!

I hope you all have an awesome weekend & are getting your stomachs ready for some major turkey consumption....It's time to be extra thankful...I am so very thankful for all of you.
