DIY Melt & Pour Soap Popsicles Tutorial
Popsicles scream summer. Make the season even more fun with these homemade melt and pour soap popsicles that are scented like your favorite treats! Simply color, scent, mold and you’re done! But don’t forget to remove the stick before bathing. Read on for how to make these fun soap pops and add some excitement to your kids’ bath time.
DIY Soap Popsicles
Ingredients:
Santa Red liquid soap color
Stained Glass Ocean Blue liquid soap color
5.5 oz. fragrance oil of choice (I used Raspberry Lemonade)
Equipment:
Crafter’s Choice Soap Pop Silicone Mold
large glass Pyrex measuring cup
Graduated Plastic Transfer Pipettes
utensil for stirring
kitchen scale
6″ x 3.75″ clear candymaking treat bags
rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle
baker’s twine
popsicle sticks
microwave
Instructions:
This recipe will yield 3 soap popsicles.
Begin by cutting the melt and pour soap base into square chunks then weigh our 4.5 oz. and place in the glass measuring cup. Heat in the microwave until melted, about 45 seconds. Add one drop of the red liquid soap colorant and stir well.
Using a plastic transfer pipette, measure out 3.5 ml of fragrance oil and stir into the pink tinted base.
Set the soap mold onto a cutting board or small tray – I used the lid from my 2lb. container of soap base – then pour the soap evenly into three of the mold cavities. Spritz with alcohol. Allow the soap to set up. (You can pop these in the fridge to speed up the process but it is NOT recommend you put these in the freezer.)
Once the first half of the soap has set up you’re ready to make the second half. Weigh out 5 oz. of melt and pour soap base and melt. Add one drop each of red and blue liquid soap colorant and stir well, then add 4 ml of fragrance oil and mix.
Spritz the top of the solidified soap based already in the mold with alcohol, then pour in the melted purple soap base you just made. Place the lid on the mold and insert the popsicle sticks about halfway into the soap. Allow to harden completely.
Now carefully push the soap pops out of the mold from the bottom. Don’t pull on the stick to remove as you’ll just end up pulling the stick out. Be patient. If you have a lot of trouble you can run the bottom of the mold under hot water.
Once your soap pops have been removed from the mold, place each soap popsicle into a clear candy treat bag and tie at the base around the stick with colorful baker’s twine or ribbon. Your soap pops are now ready for gifting or enjoying!
