Vintage Sewing Class.... Swing Skirt

Today i held my first (of many) sewing classes. I invited four ladies to my studio and used them as guinea pigs to test my teaching skills and to see if we could get four swing skirts made in a day using two machines and one over locker!

I spend all of yesterday tiding my usually messy sewing studio and cutting out the girls skirts, i did this to save time and space on the day. The girls all picked out their fabrics when they booked in, as i only have on over locker, they all when for blacks. Two girls opted for a wardrobe staple, plain back, Tracy from Painted Ghost opted for a kitch polka dot and Rose Desire wanted a stripe fabric (fabric which she already had, she used it for her wedding as a table cloth for her sweetie table)

Busy sewing bees! It worked out well having two sewing machines between four as there were lots of other jobs the girls could be doing. Gina in the back ground is ironing interfacing to her waist band, Tracy is over locking and Ellie is stitching her skirt pieces together.

Sielence, deep in concentration! A rare occasion for the day, all the girls were quiet and not gossiping!

No BooBoo Kitty Couture visit would be complete without a special appearance from the pugs. Free pug cuddles and kisses with all bookings! Pugs didn't hang around for long.... too much of a distraction!

Studio was filled with the whirr of sewing machine, girlie giggles and classic rockabilly tunes!

Rose Desire made a gathered skirt, due to her fabric being stripey, as a 3/4 circle skirt doesn't really work with stripes. Here she is battling with the gathers, attaching the skirt to the waist band.

And here are the girls and their finished skirts and just look at their big smiles.

Tracy said the best part of the day was, 'taking home a finished product! Chatting to people and learning new skills.'

Gina said, 'it has all been spledid'

It was great to see the girls posting on facebook about how much they enjoyed their day.

In two weeks time i will be hosting a sewing class for absolute beginners and teaching them how to make bunting.

If you would like to take part in future BooBoo Kitty Couture vintage sewing lessons, drop me an email at [email protected] for more details it doesn't matter how much sewing skills you have!
