Framed Paper– It’s a Thing, and It’s AMAZING

Today’s DIY idea isn’t rocket science. Some might not even call it a DIY. A piece of framed paper, really, Carrie? However it’s something you can easily do yourself in just a few minutes, has a HUGE impact, and looks seriously high end so I had to share it. Plus who needs rocket science? (astronauts). But first, CHECK IT:

That’s paper. And every time I see it at my local Paper Source it stops me in my tracks (a Paper Source just opened near me, I’m in HEAVEN!) It looks like a gorgeous piece of massive agate, which you know I love (as proven here and here). You can DIY your own marbleized paper but this piece is only $8 and it’s seriously a work of art. I found this blue piece as well, which I’ll pass along to my mom since she’s an artist and understands my paper obsession:

The moment I saw it, I knew it needed a place of honor. I had a large frame I *could* have repurposed, but I wanted you to be able to replicate it so I found a RIBBA frame at my local IKEA to complete the look.

In hindsight I wish I’d gotten an even larger frame to fit then entire piece, because I sadly had to chop this one up a bit. In fact, here’s what it looked like as I tried to decide the exact sides to cut using the glass from the frame as a guide and the other parts to loosely ‘block’ the rest of the paper to give me an idea of what it would look like when cut.

Are you ready for the hard part? YOU PUT THAT PAPER IN THE FRAME. And put the back on.

Whew. Now that you’re rested from the exertion, hang it on the wall.

The detail and colors are incredible.

Here’s a peek at what it looks like framed. I say ‘peek’, because after I snapped the photo I moved it to our gallery wall which I’ll share next week. However, here’s how it looks on a plain beige wall with no styling whatsoever and a reflection in the glass because I’m too lazy to remove the glass to take a picture. (keeping it real)

This project could be made for less if you create the marbleized paper yourself, but the paper was only $8 so to me that’s a steal for a piece of art. The IKEA frame was $20, but you can find them for mere dollars at thrift stores or repurpose ones you have on hand.

Isn’t she pretty? A framed piece of paper may be simple, but simple is what I love and can handle right now. Simple makes me HAPPY.
