Currently Loving: Fashion Week Looks To Wear Now

Hi Everyone,

Fashion Week is such an exciting event. There’s the backstage bustle, new trends that we’re dying to see, and an array of beautiful makeup that will undoubtedly trickle its way into our beauty routines over the coming year. Even if you aren’t there to see the runway in action, you can still catch clips of shows online and pine over how you’ll incorporate your favorite fall 2014 looks into your spring style refresh (cause we can’t actually wait two seasons to start wearing those trends!). Below are some of my favorite looks to inspire your closet and makeup cabinet during these last few days of New York Fashion Week.

Nails

What I like: When it comes to nails I love something daring. That’s why the nails at Mathieu Mirano (done by Miss Pop) and Opening Ceremony (done by Naomi Yasuda), both done by essie, made a lasting impression. The looks were edgy, but feminine and easy to create if you haven’t mastered the skills of nail art.

How to wear now: Instead of the red and black 1/3rds nail look seen at Mirano, try using two softer spring shades – even in winter it will brighten up your tips and get you ready for the warm months ahead. To replicate Opening Ceremony’s look, brush on a neutral or any shade really. If you’re not very adventurous, polishing every nail different, then choose one nail to be your manicure accent and expose a little bare nail with your favorite essie polish.

Hair

What I like: Jason Wu is a phenomenal designer and his shows never disappoint. Everything from the fabrics and cuts to beauty and hair are stunning. His latest show was no exception. The hair for his runway was simple and sleek, but still messy enough that it could be just the hairstyle you’re looking for on day three of training your hair.

How to wear now: If you’re suffering through snow still, then swoop your hair back and start pinning little tendrils all over. Having a few loose pieces around your neck will add a little warmth and give you that messy locks look. For spring, complete a similar look, but make sure all hair is up off the neck. And try the W bobby pin trick to strengthen the staying power of your look without needing 100 bobby pins.

Makeup

What I like: Pastel eyes and rosy cheeks rocked the runway just as much as the fashion. These two looks from Opening Ceremony and Altuzarra were some of my minimalistic favorites. They both embraced the idea of a natural face while injecting a little color just above the eye and on the apples of the cheeks. Plus, the unkept, no-makeup brow is big and worth trying out.

How to wear now: During the day try one of my beauty dos and go almost entirely makeup free. Just sweep a lilac or soft pink across your lids and you’re good to go. A soft pink in the corners of your eyes will help brighten them so if you’re feeling like you need a wide awake transformation, these eye looks are your ticket!

Fashion

What I like: Herve Leger, Tori Burch and Carolina Herrera all produced gorgeous collections, but what really stood out in each were the textures and cuts of their pieces. Leger’s perforated looking dress, Herrera’s bold patterns and Burch’s deep V neckline – what can you not love about these dresses?

How to wear now: All of the looks translate well for the coming months. Think of this spring as the time for extremes. Try perforated heels to start, a bold patterned (and brightly colored) blouse or take the plunge in a deep V silk top. Just make sure everything you’re wearing is appropriate for the occasion. ^_^
