Simple DIY Oatmeal Face Mask

I’ve tried all sorts of face masks and DIY beauty routines, but in the end, sometimes those basic home remedies are the most effective. I’ve long sworn by honey, but oats themselves have many benefits too, which is why the two make a great team when it comes to refreshing your skin and creating a healthy glow.

A natural sunburn soother and a great gentle exfoliant, oats can work wonders. Their anti-inflammatory properties also make them a favorite among those with sensitive skin. Add in a bit of honey for its cleansing, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties, plus almonds for added exfoliation, and you’ve got yourself a perfectly simple, yet instantly refreshing face mask to make a staple in your at-home spa routine!

This mask is extremely versatile. For example, you can choose whether to grind up the oats beforehand or leave whole, which create more of an exfoliant. The almonds will also help slough off dead skin cells, but if you really want a healing mask, you could opt for almond oil to reap the benefits of vitamin E and antioxidants that heal and repair skin. Here’s one way to make it:

1. Make a serving of oatmeal as directed (you won’t need more than about ½ cup dry oats to make a mask, so prepare more if you plan to save for later or use during a girls night!) either with water or milk if you’d like the added vitamins.

2. Stir in a spoonful of finely chopped or ground almonds, depending on how gentle or intense you want your exfoliant to be.

3. Mix in a teaspoon of honey.

4. Add more water if it gets too thick, then apply to your face. Leave on for 10 minutes and rinse with cool water to close up pores and leave your skin feeling fresh and renewed!
