Celebrate the Old!

Aloha, all!

This weekend, the summer online Stampin' Up! lovers group to which I belong is having its first of four blog hops this season. The group VC Rocks! is made up of Stampin' Up! demonstrators as well as customers who just love to use Stampin' Up! products. It's a fun group that doesn't take itself too seriously and shares just about everything that comes up with our e-mail group.

All of this summer's blog hops will be celebrating something as this is the VC Rocks! group's 15th summer of fun. And this month, we're celebrating the old. Old, as in Stampin' Up! products that have retired or are going to be retiring come June 2nd. I've chosen to celebrate some of my favorite products that are going to be retiring, especially one of my favorite colors ever, Coastal Cabana.

And while I'm celebrating Coastal Cabana products, I thought I'd include a stamp set that we're likely never seeing again in a Stampin' Up! catalog, Bloom With Hope. It's been rare (maybe it's never happened?) that Stampin' Up! will take a retired Hostess Stamp Set and put it in a future catalog. And this is definitely a 2014-2015 Hostess Set – about to retire.

The Coastal Cabana products in this project are: Coastal Cabana Cardstock, Coastal Cabana Classic Ink, and Coastal Cabana Thick Baker's Twine.

Mixed in with this is a not-so-new technique called a variety of names, but which I like to call Multi-Layer Stamping. While most projects (including this one) have three layers, it's possible to sneak in a fourth. After that, stamps tend to leave a large white space where the layers end. The basic technique is to cut the Whisper White layers in the layout you'd like, lay them down in a grouping, use a temporary glue to keep them together, and proceed to stamp your image on all the layers as you wish.

The next step is to pull the layers apart, mat each one, and then layer them back together, being careful to match the stamped image(s) up so it all looks like one big picture (which, of course, it is). Then glue everything together, glue the card front to the card base, and Voilà, you have your card!

I hope you'll visit the other bloggers in this weekend's VC Rocks! blog hop. I've already seen some of the projects, and they're all fun takes on favorite retired or retiring products! If you'd like to try out this fun group, you're welcome to join. All you have to do is tell us just a few things about yourself (just to prove you're not a stamp-bot) and you're in! Just leave a comment here or on the VC Rocks blog, and one of us will get back to you soon. The group is open for new members in 2015 only until May 31st. So don't delay!

Retiring Product Alert

As I said, all the Coastal Cabana products are retiring. Of the products in this card, only the Coastal Cabana Thick Baker's Twine is still available. The stamp set, Bloom With Hope, is still available, but only if you earn enough hostess dollars to purchase it. You'll have to have an order or workshop that totals at least $150 to have enough Hostess Rewards to purchase it. The sentiment on the card is from the Wetlands Stamp Set, and that is NOT RETIRING. So that, as well as the Pear Pizzazz ink in the flower stems will be around for at least another year.
