Makeup Wars – Favorite Black Eyeliners

I am excited to bring you this week’s edition of Makeup Wars – our favorite black eyeliners! When I started sorting through my black eyeliners this morning, I had over 10 in my “like” pile. But I didn’t really want to share 10 with you. Instead, I wanted to narrow it down to three liners that I love and couldn’t live without. In fact, I had to run out and buy a new Marc Jacobs liner because mine ran out! That’s dedication, people! Without further ado, here are my 3 “Must-Have” Black Eyeliners!

Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Blacquer ($25.00) – I first raved about this gel liner in pencil form back in August 2013 and I still love it!
Mally Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Eyeliner in Midnight ($15.00) – I originally received this pencil for review in Espresso and loved it so much that I ran to ULTA to buy it in black! I have worn either Espresso or Midnight on my lower lash line every day for the past month. So easy to apply!
Senna Cosmetics Pinpoint Micro Tip Liquid Eyeliner in Black ($20.00)* – I received this as a sample when I attended the blogger preview night at The Makeup Show Chicago. It’s my first experience with Senna Cosmetics and I am very impressed! I have gone through several different liquid eyeliner pens and this one is both the easiest to use AND gives the most precise line – thick or thin!

As you can see from the swatches above, not all of these are created equal. The first picture clearly indicates that Marc Jacobs Blacquer is the darkest of the three. You can also see that you can get either a fat or a thin line from the Senna liquid eyeliner. It’s the easiest and most precise liner I own! The only drawback to the Marc Jacobs is that it is an automatic liner, so it can be very hard to get a precise line. (It does come with a little built-in sharpener, but I can never seem to use it correctly.) Which is why I love the Mally – it is a true pencil and it is my absolute favorite liner for my lower lash line.

I did a wear test on my hand for a 12 hour time period. After the first ten minutes I vigorously wiped my hand and tried to smudge the colors – they didn’t budge, though the Mally did appear lighter. Not sure how that happened – if it isn’t as dark, where did the color go?
I then wet my hand and tried once again to rub the color away. The Senna did come of easily, the Mally came off slightly and the Marc Jacobs still didn’t budge. I really don’t mind if the Senna comes off with water – that means it’s easy to fix any mistakes!
As I am typing this, it is 12 hours later and the Marc Jacobs still looks as though I just applied it. This can be good or bad – good if you need long wear, bad if you don’t have a quality makeup remover!!!

Although the Marc Jacobs is the most expensive of the group at $25.00, you can see that it’s worth it!

Have you tried any of the Marc Jacobs Highliners? I already own three, and am looking to buy more! And now that I own both black and brown from Mally, I think I need some of the colors!
Which are your favorites? Let me know in the comments and check out the rest of the lists below!
