DFW Icemageddon – 2013

I know that when people think about Texas, they think about warm weather, or even the desert. And for the most part, they’re right. It gets hotter than hell in this state for a good 5 months out of the year. We don’t really get seasons, although in this part of North Texas, we get more ‘seasons’ than most. Which is to say … every once in a while, we actually get a winter.

Last ‘Winter’? Nothing. I mean, I know we had some flurries on Christmas Eve, but that was about it in the way of real ‘cold’ weather. In this area of the state real Winters seem to happen about every other year – and that rule seems to be proving true. ‘Icemageddon’ came through DFW last Thursday evening and we’re STILL dealing with the remnants. We started with about 2″ of solid ice on the roads, and while most of it has melted, we still have a pretty solid carpet on white sleet sticking to our yard.

I’m sure that everyone North of the Mason Dixon line thinks we’re a bunch of wimps down here … and well, I won’t argue that. I will say though that weather like this becomes a heck of a lot harder to deal with when a city this size owns exactly TWO snowplows. Yes, that’s TWO.

No one said that the people who run this state are worth a damn. Well, *I* never said that anyway.

Regardless, it was REALLY pretty on Friday when I took these photos. It would have been better if it had been actual snow that we could play in, but the ice was fun to look at, especially with the leaves (just now) changing colors.

But my God, if they don’t reopen school tomorrow I might have to cut someone.
