I’m late, I’m late for a very important…

Let’s not beleaguer the fact that I have no sense of timing, the fact is, I’m here. And I couldn’t be happier to have the opportunity to guest post while the wonderful Melificent is off on her European adventure! I’m Jess, though some of you might know me better as Frightwing. In the past, I’ve been on the Fangirl Diaries to talk about Batman and all things Fall TV and comic related. Instead of a boring “Get to know me” post, I thought I’d just jump right on in with a less boring and maybe more telling way to introduce myself that’s hopefully some fun.

Without further ado, any grandstanding or further textual waste of time, here we go!

Some people are happy watching geek media on their TVs, some people love reading comics, some people collect statues, original artwork. Some people are cosplayers, some people don’t care if they ever go to a convention, and for some people, SDCC is their Mecca. So, from pilgrimages to the places I hold near and dear to the geek in my heart, to the silly little pursuits that mean a lot to me, have a look at my current Geek Bucket List, fortunately, I’ve gotten to do some of these, but the list also keeps growing. (To save time, and space, I compacted some of this stuff up.)

  1. Go to SDCC and Dragon-Con.
  2. Go to a comic convention in Europe (Because I’ve heard great things, and why not combine a geek passion with seeing a little more of the world?)
  3. Meet Stan Lee, Joe Linsner, Jim Lee, Chris Claremont, Chris Bachalo, Dave Gibbons, Sandra Hope, and… Really, a number of other comics professionals.
  4. Meet Bruce Campbell (This was one of the first things on this list I got to do, and I got to share it with my mom, who introduced me to Army of Darkness and The Evil Dead), Udo Kier (Who was super sweet) and Robert Englund (So soon! Shockpop 2015!), my youthful horror icons.
  5. Have my art appear on a cover for a major/semi-major comics property.
  6. Work in the costuming department on the DC comics Justice League film series. (They may not be the movies that we deserve, but they’re the movies we’re going to get and it would be a hell of an opportunity. And Marvel does seem to have it under control on their end.)
  7. Spend a Halloween in Sleepy Hollow, visit the real life Double R Diner from Twin Peaks, Twede’s in North Bend, WA, visit The Winchester Mystery House (An influence for Rose Red.)
  8. Attend a Met Costume Gala (Does this count? I think it does with the way I feel about fashion and costume design, even meeting Tokidoki was squeeworthy in that sense.)
  9. Meet Betsey Johnson, Vivienne Westwood and Jean Paul Gaultier. (This totally counts. I fangirl so hard over these three, and if you need to wonder why Gaultier counts, watch The Fifth Element. Watch it anyhow. It’s still great.)
  10. Stand in the spot where George Lass gets hit with the falling toilet seat and killed in Dead Like Me. (Tip, this is actually in Vancouver.)
  11. Find the perfect tattoo artists for my Endless half-sleeve and the Big Barda portrait I’ve been planning.
  12. See David Bowie live, meet The Thin White Duke himself.
  13. Visit the, now defunct, Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton.
  14. Get an opportunity to work on character design and development for one of Mattel’s toy lines, Monster High or Ever After High.
  15. Meet Stephen King. (Even if I blame him for my crippling fear of clowns.), Neil Gaiman (Who has been awesome every time I’ve gotten to talk to him), Cherie Priest and Gail Carriger.
  16. See Cassandra Cain re-introduced into the active DC comics continuity. (Not fair of you in the new 52, DC! You’ve given a lot of things a try, some with varying levels of success, so why is it that she’s just unworthy? And, I totally feel strongly enough about this that it belongs on this list.)
  17. Add Mjlonir, Batarangs and Freddie Kruger’s glove to my existing replica weapon arsenal, which includes Elektra’s Sais and The Joker’s Cane.
  18. Experience a Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland.
  19. Visit Disney’s two current parks in Asia, in Hong Kong and Tokyo respectively. I don’t always geek out over Disney, but Tokyo still has Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin and a Toontown area.
  20. Visit the TARDIS!
  21. Get to update the design for an iconic comic book character. (I can think of at least a few that could use a makeover to get with the times they’re meant to fit.)
  22. Hug a muppet. Unless you count the ones from Avenue Q, and then I got really lucky one time during the holiday fundraising auction season and we got to go backstage and had our picture taken with Trekkie Monster.
  23. Meet Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy. (The definitive voices of The Joker and Batman as far as I’m concerned.)And for that matter meet Bruce Timm and Paul Dini because they’re awesome for more than just B:tAS and are comic industry pros I haven’t had a chance to meet before.
  24. Finish my collection of The Endless busts. I’ve got to pull them back out of storage, but I only have a very few left.
  25. Find out the whole “Bat-fleck” thing is really just a bad dream.

I’d say I’m really bad at closing, but let me leave you with this, what’s on your Geek Bucket List? And, have you seen that Variety is reporting Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is going to be playing Black Adam in “Shazam” for New Line? Thoughts?
