Sheer layering

How do I make a sheer dress work for the winter? I layer a pant unitard underneath and a fur lined coat over. I always find that, whether I'm going to an indoor event, or to a restaurant, I'm always sweating wearing heavy clothing. I'm finding it much more practical to layer lightly with a statement coat for the outdoors. Sheer can work in the winter, you just have to be creative.
