Living Room Makeover Reveal

We all love a good before and after right? Well today's
makeover is going to knock your socks off. Nabila Jouni’s
living room in Guildford, NSW, is barely recognisable as it
has gone from a mess to mesmerising thanks to a makeover
from online homewares retailer TheHome.com.au. The living
room was named Australia’s Ugliest after a nationwide search
together with Network Ten’s Studio 10, and won a makeover
valued at $10,000 from TheHome.com.au and Haymes Paint.
"I love everything – the furniture and the bright colours.
The room makes me feel happy when I enter it," Nabila said.

According to TheHome.com.au’s stylist Emma Blomfield, who
headed up the makeover, the calming and fresh colours were
chosen to make the room feel lighter and brighter. "The sofas are
slimline and a much better use of the space – the previous couches
were too imposing and blocked the natural traffic flow," Emma said.
Family is important to Mrs Jouni, so the floating shelf with an array
of family pictures was according to Blomfield a "non-negotiable".

It was Nabila’s son Sam who entered his mother into the
competition, and revealed she was so ashamed of her ugly
living room she was too embarrassed to entertain her own
children and grandchildren in it. "My parents have struggled to
pay off their mortgage for the past 16 years, leaving no money to
fix up our home. All my mother wants is to have an entertaining
area to cater to her children and grandchildren without being
embarrassed. She deserves this," Sam wrote in his touching entry.

The walls were repainted in a calming blue called Trempealeau
by boutique paint retailer Haymes Paint. "Painting a room can
be one of the simplest ways to change its atmosphere and
personality. In this case, we used blue to create a more
contemporary, uplifting yet relaxed feel," said Kylea Wilson,
Colour & Commercial Assistant at Haymes Paint.
