Two thousand and thirteen

Where did you begin 2013? Again in the suburbs of Cologne, on a hill, watching the fireworks over the skyline of Cologne, drinking sparkling wine. What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before? Going on a date. Going swimming in my underwear in the middle of Kreuzberg. Visiting Poland. Meeting a lot of people I only know from the internet all at the same time (and it was great!). Did you keep your new year’s resolutions and will you make more for next year? I never make any so there’s nothing to keep. Were you in school anytime this year? No. Did anyone close to you give birth? Well, one of my friends from back in uni gave birth to twins. Did anyone close to you die? No. What countries did you visit? Poland. How did you earn money? Same old, still working as the Sales & Marketing Executive for a Berlin-based print magazine. Where did most of your money go? Tattoos, food and drinks. Did you have any encounters with the police? No. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013? Motivation. What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? No idea. Probably my birthday, December 14. Not for any particular reason, only because it’s a date I always remember. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Getting to work on exciting new projects, getting two cool articles published and making a lot of new friends. What was your biggest failure? Wasting so much time on pointless things. Where did you go on holidays? I spent days and weekends in Cologne, Cassel, Uelzen and Warsaw. What was the best thing you bought? I finally bought my favourite shoes ever again after breaking them at some point in spring (I was devastated and never really got over it – until I finally found them again second hand). What did you get really, really excited about? Tattoos. Always. And going away from Berlin and coming back. Did you move anywhere? No. Where do you live now? Germany, Berlin, Neukölln. What songs will always remind you of 2013? Johann Pachelbel –

Canon In D. Frank Turner –
Four Simple Words. Miley Cyrus – Wrecking Ball. David Bowie – The Stars (Are Out Tonight). Casper –
Im Ascheregen. What do you wish you’d done more of? Doing more things that felt good or right, no matter how much sense they made, without stressing myself about obligations and commitments that only existed in my head. What do you wish you’d done less of? Forgetting myself and doing things I neither like nor want or surrounding myself with people I actually don’t want to have around me at all. How did you spend Christmas? With my family in the suburbs of Cologne, like every year. We had dinner with my grandparents and on the 25th my best friend Walter flew over from Berlin and we’ve been doing sightseeing in Cologne, drinking Kölsch and relaxing. What did you get for Christmas? Expanders and 18mm/20mm flesh tunnels for my ears, an Amazon voucher, an IKEA voucher, a bottle of “Core Tex Bier”, a studded bracelet, candy, homemade cookies and money. Did you fall in love in 2013? How does that even feel? I don’t know. How many one-night stands? I still don’t kiss and tell. What was your favourite TV program? Heute Show, Extra3, Kalkofes Mattscheibe, Tatort, South Park. But I don’t actually watch TV, I only stream online. What books did you read? Irvine Welsh – Skag Boys. Irvine Welsh – Marabou Stork Nightmares. Ian McEwan – The Innocent. And I just started reading Bret Easton Ellis – Less Than Zero. What was your favourite film of this year? I don’t think I’ve watched any recent films this year, mostly documentaries. What did you want and not get? The ultimate and perfect idea what to do with myself and my life. What did you do on your birthday and how old were you? I turned 24 this year and it was a Saturday so I had a nice breakfast, got a new tattoo and then had dinner and drinks with two of my best friends. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013? Black as always, leater jackets, sheer tights, oldschool Buffalos, hairbuns and undercuts. What kept you sane? Having somewhere to go most days. What concerts and shows did you go to? Around 30 again in total, the best ones being Die Ärzte at Proxima in Warsaw, Frank Turner at Bi Nuu in Berlin, Psychic TV at Festsaal Kreuzberg in Berlin and Patrick Wolf at Babylon in Berlin. What political issues stirred you the most? The German elections, clearly. What has been your favourite moment? The small things. Good conversations, amazing company, great parties and nice food. Favourite night out? Probably one of the numerous Homopatiks or GEGENs. Tell us a valuable life lesson your learned in 2013. There is no point in being miserable. There really isn’t. What’s something you learned about yourself? I always believed I was different. So very different. Not different from everyone else but different from who I really am. What lyrics sum up your year of 2013? “So in the stillness of the moment make sure you take a polaroid picture, and keep it with you forever, to remind yourself that everything changes, but there was this one time, there was this one time, when things were OK.”
