This Cookies and Cream Bundt Cake is loaded with chocolate cookies in the filling and piled high on top!
A guy came on Friday to install new cable/internet, which was supposed to take oh…2-4 hours.
This had me at anxiety level RED, which equals SEVERE. Basically, what I’ve done is copy the Department of Homeland Security Advisory System, and applied it to my levels of stress. If you think that this sounds dramatic, I’d just love to take a second to welcome you to the life of a high anxiety individual. Hi friend, take a seat. Let’s over analyze things for a few forty hours, want to?
Obviously, I was stressed out for a number of reasons. Mainly, what do I do while he’s here?
I’ve never been good at having worker people in my house. Ever. It’s a whole big thing and my husband could probably publish a suspense novel made up of the texts I’ve sent him while worker people were in the house. FOUR hours? That’s like…a whole big chunk of the day. Do I just walk around and cook and clean and chase the toddler like normal? But then what if he has a question but I’m in the bathroom and then things get awkward because he’s looking for me and I’m yelling, “Hang on!!” from the toilet?
Besides, my no-one-is-home life is embarrassing. Lucy and I yell weird songs and eat Frosted Flakes with no milk out of a giant bowl and sometimes she likes to play this game where we crawl around and act like puppies. I mean, I obviously don’t enjoy the game at ALL (obviously) but I love her so I play it with her. I’m just a good mom, you really can’t judge me for that.
I made sure I got up super early Friday so I could shower and put on make-up and vacuum the carpet so that the TV guy couldn’t see all the Frosted Flake crumbs everywhere. Then I lit a bunch of candles so that the house would smell good, but then I worried that he’d think I was trying to seduce him, what with the make up and candles and all, so I blew the candles out. It was a stressful morning, to say the least.
Then he was at my house for SIX HOURS.
SIX. HOURS.
Do you know what can happen in six hours? Childbirth. There are women who have been in labor for less than that. Also, I could drive to Memphis or Dallas in 6 hours.
What I’m saying is, six hours is infinity in TV worker guy in my house time. I sat on the couch with Lucy for a long time, trying to be calm and normal. But then after a couple hours I worried that it looked like I was lazy, so I got up and walked around like I was doing things, but really I was just moving nicknacks around to new spots. It was super duper freezing cold out, but I bundled Lucy up and we walked around the front yard for a bit, just so he would think I was a normal mom and not one of those weirdos who is basically allergic to fresh air and sunlight. Which I am.
It was just a stressful day. I needed cake when it was over. Also because I was hungry because I felt weird eating in front of him.
This cake is pretty amazing, if I do say so. It might not scream “Fall baking,” but I LOVE desserts like this for the holidays! Most large dinners and parties are full of traditional desserts – a cake like this is kid friendly and pretty perfect for picky eaters. It’s a fun change of pace at Thanksgiving!
