Mickey Mouse Cake Topper

If you have a Mickey Mouse fan in your life, this is for you! A simple and completely edible Mickey Mouse Cake Topper!

My Lucy Goose is two today!

Good grief, what a year. The year between 1-2 is a long one, friends. We started the year with Lucy barely crawling, and now she’s running all over the place. How does this happen? How does a year seem so long and so short at the same time? Why do kids have to grow up? Why do heels still come in the package of sandwich bread even though no one eats them?

Forget that last question. Lucy actually eats the heels. It’s why we keep her around.

I had big plans for Lucy’s birthday this year (much like last year). I was going to made her an adorable cake and set up an elaborate dessert table with Minnie Mouse themed treats…and then life happened. Lucy got sick two weeks ago with a horrible stomach bug, my husband was out of town, and I sat up one night after cleaning vomit for the 97th time and decided that the last thing I needed on my plate was a bunch of people to feed.

So, I cancelled the party. I threw away the invitations I ordered, cancelled the room I had rented, and felt free as a bird. Seriously, friends…just once in your life, start planning a big party and then cancel it all at the last minute. It’s a strangely fabulous feeling.

I decided to just do cake and ice cream and balloons at home. And guess what? Lucy loved it!

My one non-negotiable was the cake. Every kiddo deserves a fun cake for their birthday!! Lucy loves dessert SO much, so I knew that she needed her very own cake. The topper on this little cake looks big because it’s a tiny cake…4″. So keep in mind that if you make this topper for a larger cake, it will take up a lot less room on top!

All you need for this fun topper is a Mini Ball Cake Pan, one chocolate sandwich cookie, and some chocolate almond bark. All you’ll do is split your cookie and scrape off the frosting so you have two cookies. Melt almond bark according to package directions, and fill one cake mold. You do not need to grease the mold — the almond bark has enough oil in it to keep the chocolate from sticking.

Place the mold in the fridge until the chocolate is firm (this may take a bit — it takes about 6 oz of bark to fill up the mold, so it’s a lot of melted chocolate). Once it’s firm, pop it out of the mold and attach the cookie “ears” using melted almond bark.

Done! Easy peasy and oh so cute.

Here’s Lucy while we were singing her “Happy Birthday”. She was so happy! I was worried it might scare her, but it didn’t scare her a bit.

I bought her super cute dress on Etsy from THIS vendor. It wasn’t advertised as a knot dress, but I messaged the seller and asked if she would make it as a knot dress (they are made to order) and thankfully, she did it! Knot dresses can be worn a whole lot longer since the straps can be adjusted…you can even use a knot dress as a longer baby-doll style top when your kiddo gets too tall to wear it as a dress. If you’re going to invest in pricey clothes for your toddler, a knot dress will usually get you the most bang for your buck — slip a long sleeved shirt under it in the cold months or wear it as is in the warm.

The matching hair bows came from THIS Etsy vendor. Seriously the cutest birthday outfit!

Lucy’s always begging to blow out candles in the house, so she was pretty thrilled about this one.

And of course, she dove right in.

It was a low-key party, but it was such a wonderful evening. The cake was adorable and super simple to make — perfect for any Mickey Mouse fan!

Happy birthday, Goose!

Have a great day!
