Fairy Tales

Happy ALMOST Friday, y'all! What's the weather like in your neck of the woods? I've seen so many people posting about snow days and crazy Arctic weather. But, here in North Texas... nothin'! It's just cold enough to where we can't go outside for recess, but not cold enough to make it worth staying inside! My friends are so ready to run around freely outside... crossing my fingers that happens tomorrow :)
We have managed to keep ourselves busy and entertained, thankfully. This week we have been comparing and contrasting traditional and contemporary fairy tales.
The first two days we read Cinderella and The Rough-Face Girl. After reading and discussing, my students used this Venn Diagram flapbook to compare the two characters.
Then, some of the students chose to make a Cinderella portrait...
While others made the Rough-Face Girl.
Some of them are quite the little artists!
On the third day we read Cindy Ellen. Writing to the stepsisters is always a favorite activity of my students!
Then, today we switched over to the Little Red Riding Hood.
After reading the fairy tale, my students wrote about the beginning, middle, and end of the story on index cards and made a little wolf to top it all off. Open House is in a couple of weeks, so we are trying to make everything look presentable :)
Tomorrow we will read Lon Po Po to compare to LRRH! I absolutely LOVE reading fairy tales and wish we had time for more!!! What are some of your favorites?
