Empathy (Dear Josh) {Musical Mondays & Giveaway}

Today's song is dedicated to Josh. My best friend. Today he leaves for Canada and I'm going to miss him.
This week's song: Empathy by Alanis Morissette
There are so many parts that I have hidden and denied and lost There are so many ways that I have cut off my nose to spite my face There are so many colors that I still try to hide while I paint And there are so many tunes that I secretly sing as I wait You come along and invite these parts out of hiding This invitation is one that I've stopped fighting
Thank you for seeing me I feel so less lonely Thank you for getting me I'm healed by your empathy Oh, this intimacy
There were so many times I thought I'd die not being truly known There've been so many moments forever lonely in my vocation You come along to celebrate each feeling, oh And there you are, all honor and inquiring
Thank you for seeing me I feel so less lonely Thank you for getting me I'm healed by your empathy Oh, this intimacy
There was a day where the trust that was being asked of me Required too much you see to accept your generosity And to know myself enough to let you help me
Thank you for seeing me I feel so less lonely Thank you for getting me I'm healed by your empathy Oh, this intimacy

Dear Josh,

Today is the day that everything changes. You're likely already in the car on your way to Edmonton and your new life already. These last few weeks went by entirely too fast and this last week has been a whirlwind of trying to help you get ready to go while trying to fit in as much last time together as I possibly could.

It's hard to think of life without you around, and even harder to think about how empty this apartment is going to feel without you in it. For the last five years of my life you've been the biggest constant in my life. You've been there every time I've needed someone to lean on, a little advice, or even a friend to make the mundane parts of life more interesting. It's been some of the best years of my life and I can never express just how grateful I am to have had them-it's truly been one of the greatest blessings of my life.

We've been through so many things together. We've had so many grand adventures and experiences that I will forever remember more fondly because you were there for them with me. You have truly changed me as a person and it has been for the better. I feel so much more whole having had you as my friend these past few years, and I feel so much better prepared for the world I'm about to enter. A world where you are much too far away, but where I know we will remain close-no matter the distance.

As you embark on this new path in your journey please be aware that you are one of the bravest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing and I'm continuously inspired by you. You not only push yourself to do miraculous things but you encourage those around you to change and grow. You embolden us to be better people and to improve our lives in ways we may have missed or ignored. There are so many of us you've played catalyst for many times in the past few years, and I'm lucky to have been spurred by you.

Here you are moving to another country, to a city you've never been to, to chase your dreams instead of staying in your comfort zone and feeling unhappy. Your courage is wonderful, and I am so very very proud of you for everything-especially this! I'm so excited for the new adventures that await you, and to watch your success as you go after the things you really want in life. No more settling-only reaching and succeeding!

You have been the best friend anyone could have ever had-how fortuitous that you've been mine! Living with you has been an absolute blast and I'm going to miss all the simple things that came with it-onion ring missions after a hard day, catching up on our favorite TV shows together, wandering IKEA aimlessly for something to do, staying up late (usually much alter than we should have) talking about anything under the sun, and even just knowing you are in the next room. Missing you is going to be such an adjustment.
Thank you for making me a better person. Thank you for your unconditional love and friendship. Thank you for encouraging me to go after the things I want-even when I was scared and they seemed too difficult to achieve. Thank you for believing in me even when I didn't. Thank you for teaching me constantly about new things and about compassion. Thank you for being such an example in how to be a good person and how to improve the world around me. Thank you for giving such great advice when I needed it most. Thank you for cooking wonderful things like Choucroute Garnie, French Onion Soup, and more. Thank you for constantly making me laugh-it's been a riot!

Most of all thank you for being you. I love you so much more than I can possibly express in one letter or even a thousand. You are definitely one of my closest soul mates, and I know we're meant to be close to each other so you'd better keep in touch. Have so much fun and start looking for all of the cool things to see and best places to eat in Edmonton so you'll know where to take me when I come visit.
With all my love,
Angie.
