Salt Lake ComicCon Day 2 Recap
The second day of Salt Lake ComicCon (Friday) was significantly easier to get in. It didn't look like it was going to be, but since they had posted a huge apology on their Facebook page vowing to make it right to anyone who felt they weren't treated fairly. Apparently there were a bunch of people who bought tickets and then stood in the registration line for 4 hours before being told to go home because they were at capacity, and they were angry.
We didn't feel like we needed a refund, but they had forgotten to give us our photo cash the day before. We hopped in the tremendously huge Gold pass line while Jan (who is the celebrity whisperer-no lie) went to talk to Bryan Brandonberg. Long story short she managed to get a second Gold Pass free for her son (it was his birthday) and she called to tell us she was already in... She recommended we go to the VIP desk to get our cash vouchers, and once we did they just let us in instead of forcing us to wait in the big line again. That was nice. We immediately headed for Cary Elwes' booth because Ken wanted to make sure to meet him before the lines got out of control.
Cary Elwes was awesome-he put curtains up all around his booth so he could have private moments with his guests instead of rushing them through-probably also to prevent people just snapping pictures while waiting. We got in, he signed a photo for Ken, and then he took a photo with us. He hugged us all as we went to leave, and while I'm not a huge fangirl-I got out of that booth and actually squealed... He just smelled so nice, and was so damn suave. I also promised him as I was leaving I'd tell you all about his book on the blog.
His book is up for Pre-Order on Amazon-it's called As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride by Cary Elwes, but he said the other cast members helped contribute as well. If you Pre-Order it now, it's only $16.95 but will be $25 after it's released in October-so snag it now if you're a fan.
After waiting in his line we decided we really wanted to do a little wandering as we hadn't done enough the day before. We found the Evermore Park booth. Evermore Park is a new steampunk theme park coming to Utah in 2015-and it's going to be open year round with lots of great activities and fun events year round! I'm kind of excited-it looks like it is going to be very awesome!
We wanted to make it to the Bruce Campbell panel so we went into the one previous to it and sat at the back. Turns out his name was Vic Mignogna and man we didn't care for him... He was a little too fake and talked about god a little too much. But after he was over we made it up closer to see Bruce Campbell. He pulled people out of the audience and had them perform or asked them questions and then he helped the business director for Salt Lake ComicCon propose to his artist girlfriend. I thought it was incredibly sweet until Kristina pointed out that he did the same gimmick at one of his book signings.
Luckily his panel rolled over into the next one we wanted to see, which was Eliza Dushku, and we stayed in our good seats for that experience. She was incredibly sweet. She had just gotten back from Africa and had done three full college classes (her first day as a freshman in college) the day before flying into Salt Lake City. She'd also taken the time to "Faithen" her hair. She brought her mother on stage to answer questions and she filmed a little video of the crowd yelling "Hey Aunt Helen" for her aunt's (who lives in Saint George, Utah) 95th birthday. She was so sweet!
Did you know her and her mother run a charity called THRIVEGulu? It's a project helping people in Gulu, Uganda and other war-affected communities. They do a lot of community work and help with therapy for those her were child soldiers or otherwise involved.
After Eliza's panel it rolled right into Alan Tudyk, and he was also very nice and funny! He brought people up on stage and they traded question for question. He'd ask them something and they were allowed to ask him something back. Then he'd give them something out of his "bag of shit." It literally was a bag he'd filled with random things from around the house... A pair of sunglasses, a book, shirts, etc. Basically anything in his junk drawer he could sign and give to the people who'd come up on stage.
After Alan Tudyk, Jan stayed for Manu Bennet but we were tired of sitting and decided to go out and look around. Things had exploded and it was packed, but we managed to find some fun cosplayers and booths before meeting up with Jan again.
I also stumbled upon the Peach Treats booth. I follow her on Instagram and have wanted a pair of fakers for a long time! Fakers are earrings that make it look like you have gauged earrings, and she does beautiful one of a kind work! I bought a pair and then asked her for a photo-I look horrible in this shot, but she looks gorgeous-she is gorgeous!
I also purchased this fantastic work of art from The Tonus. I love it, and he added a bit of custom to the bottom left for me!
Before heading home we stopped by Alan Tudyk's booth and he doesn't do photos, but we decided to get his autograph. I've never gotten an autograph like that before, but couldn't resist.
