Her Wonderful Adventure's Big Box O'Fall & Halloween Giveaway

Good morning lovelies! I have the pleasure of introducing you to the incredibly resilient Patricia Alexandra (a.k.a. Alex) from Her Wonderful Adventure today! This lady has survived a lot, lived in Sweden, AND she's currently a local (to me)! Alex, why have we not gotten coffee yet? Oh yeah, school is eating my life. We need to before you move back to Sweden! Not only do I get to introduce you and help you get to know her and her love for Fall, but she's offering one lucky reader a big box of Fall/Halloween goodies! We'll get to that, but int he meantime here's a little interview I did with Alex, enjoy!
How do you usually celebrate Halloween? I try to make Halloween a monthly ordeal. I will go out to see one "new" scary movie, and then pile up on the couch to watch a bunch of classics. At some point I will either go to a party, or chill with friends, but the night always ends with me out, alone, staring at the moon, being creepy and reveling in the magic of my favorite holiday.
Was Halloween celebrated at all when you were in Sweden? If so, how is it different? Halloween is very new to the Swedes! It's cute how they emulate American culture sometimes. I actually suffered a mild depression in October in Sweden due to the lack of Halloween excitement. No decorations. No celebrations. Henri and his mom threw me a surprise Halloween party and I cried! Then we went out to a bar with some friends. They all dressed up-I was proud of them. Give me a few more years in Sweden and I'll have everyone putting up spiders on the wall in September!

What has been your favorite costume? Oh gosh, hard question. Every costume is like a child to me. I dressed as a nurse from Silent Hill one year and had to make my own liquid latex and sheer fabric face cover; I had no eyes and no nose and no lips! It got stares and shock, and I was even on the news at 11PM that night. It was definitely a memorable year.

If money/time/difficulty were no issue, what is one thing you'd dress up like in a heartbeat? Edward Scissorhands. It's kind of been my dream for years, and hasn't happened yet. How do you drive to a party as Edward Scissorhands? Still... I will find a way.
What is your favorite Halloween candy? Anything Reese's. My entire family has an extreme addiction to Reese's. When my sister and I would dump out our trick-or-treat bags the entire family dive-bombed with Reese's in mind.

What is your favorite scary story/legend? I am obsessed with reading about skinwalkers. My roommate is Navajo and the skinwalker is a bit of lore in their culture. The stories are completely nightmarish; for example, once his brother was outside of a family tepee at night during an important ceremony; he saw something looking at him from underneath his truck. It scurried off into the dark but he felt it standing right behind him a few minutes later. Instead of turning around he looked down at his feet and saw a single cloven hoof.
When I heard that story I think I slept with the lights on for a week, and that's one of the milder ones! Skinwalkers are terrifying!
What would be your top 3 Halloween movies?
  1. Hocus Pocus. If Hocus Pocus is not on your list of top Halloween movies you need to seriously re-evaluate your life decisions.
  2. Carnival of Souls. This movie actually takes place in Salt Lake City back in the 60's so it's historically fascinating to me since I live here and adore this city. It was a really important cult classic movie, inspiring horror geniuses to work with atmosphere to show uneasiness and frighten audience.
  3. The Halloween Tree. This is an old 90's cartoon movie but it is really chilling and based on a book by Ray Bradbury, who also wrote the best book of all time (a scary Halloween read if you're interested) Something Wicked This Way Comes. The Halloween Tree explores ancient customs about death and ghosts, it's informative as well as unsettling and it conveys that sense of creepiness that Ray Bradbury does so well.

What would make this Halloween the best Halloween ever?
Unfortunately Henry wont be here to see a REAL American Halloween, so we will settle with my costume/makeup turning out great, and feeling scared at least one time during the day :). There's always American Horror Story's Halloween two-parter episode, which definitely helped make Halloween great the past few years!
