The Early Bird: Choupette Lagerfeld is the New Face of Shu Uemura

In today’s incredible spokesmodel news, looks like the folks over at Shu Uemura have gone a little cat-crazy. That’s right — the world’s most famous kitty (move over, Grumpy Cat) has been cast as the face of the beauty brand for their holiday collection. Say hello to Shupette by Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura.
While nothing has yet been confirmed, the collection is expected to feature “furry” false eyelashes and nail polish for your “claws”. The feline has also landed a book deal, and Choupette: The Private Life of a High-Flying Fashion Cat, is coming to a bookstore near you on September 15. Can’t make this stuff up, guys!
For those of you unfamiliar with the kitty extraordinaire, Choupette is the pet of Karl Lagerfeld (yes, the Karl Lagerfeld). She’s been gifted to the designer/photographer in 2011 by model Baptiste Giabiconi. The snow-white siamese has already amassed quite a fanbase: a combined following of nearly 50k on Twitter and Instagram. Choupette is no alley cat, either: she’s treated like a queen.
“I thought she was too cute,” Karl said of his furry companion in 2012, “She is like a kept woman. She has a strong personality. She has lunch and dinner with me on the table, with her own food… she even knows how to use an iPad.”
In case you were wondering, the kitty has 2 personal maids (one for day and one for night) and a personal vet. Her book will detail her personal healthcare, fashion and beauty tips, secret loves, hates (she apparently hates ombre and crop tops), and offer an insight to her life as a jet-setter. Did I mention this is all about a cat?
To be fair, this isn’t the first time fashion and furry companions mixed. Marcel — Francois Nars’ French bulldog — became the face of the NARS Pro Prime range in 2010. Choupette herself has been her owner Karl’s muse for the past three years. Perhaps she’s behind the wedding dress we saw as the closing look for Chanel Couture last week.
