The Early Bird: Christian Louboutin Introduces Beauty

Ask any girl — there is nothing sexier than the peek of a red sole. Christian Louboutin is synonymous for many things: sex appeal, femme fatales, and ultra-luxury. The latest foray for the famed accessories brand? Beauty.

Beauty seems like a natural next step. Legend has it, before a show in 1992, Louboutin was feeling like the shoes from his footwear collection were missing something that would give them a little bit more oomph. He then swiped a bottle of blood-red nail lacquer — I’ve heard it was Chanel — from the hands of a disgruntled assistant, and painted it on the sole of the shoe. Thus, the red sole was born — all thanks to a stray bottle of varnish.

Now, Louboutin is launching his very own line of nail polish, featuring (you guessed it) — a red that’s meant to mimic the gravitational pull of the trademark red sole. In addition to the scarlet hue, there are 30 other shades meant to go along with the brand’s footwear collections. The bottles will debut August 6th in Nordstrom, Sephora, and other retailers. If you live in New York, though, you’re lucky — the bottles make their debut today on the eighth floor of the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship.

Like the shoes, each bottle is meant to make quite a significant dent in your wallet — a $50 dent. If you’re balking at the price tag, think of it this way: each of the bottles looks like a work of art as opposed to a lacquer-filled jar. The cap is ultra-long and pointy (kind of like the heel of a certain red-soled shoe), and the cap for the scarlet hue is the longest and pointiest. Not only will these look striking on your nails, but it’ll look devastatingly pretty on your dresser, too.
