The Sunday Post: Five Things to Look Forward to

With summer ending, it’s easy to get awfully moody. Say goodbye to rooftop parties, barbecues, shorts, and happiness warm weather — we have nine months until we can celebrate those again. However, with the onset of a new season come new things to look forward to. Sure, the days might be getting shorter, but that doesn’t mean we’re about to have any less fun in the coming chill.

Sweater weather. Nothing makes you feel cozier than the chunkiest knit you can get your hands on. They’re like the blanket that you can wear, plus are really fun for hiding in when it’s below freezing out. This season’s all about a really oversized knit, complete with a voluminous turtleneck that’s perfect for pretending you’re a, well, turtle. Who doesn’t want that?

Fashion Week. While I get a mild case of anxiety surrounding fashion week (doesn’t every editor/pr person?) I can’t help but be really truly excited for the onslaught of Spring/Summer ’15 trends. Between the shows, the designers, the new beauty looks, and fashion for days, I love the energy that the city gets every time early September rolls around. It’s like everyone rolls out of their summer stupor and brings their A-game, style-wise.

Halloween. I was never much of a Halloween type of gal, but I’m really planning on going all out this year. New York is the best place to have a wild All Hallow’s Eve, after all (hey there, Village Parade!) so it’s about time I stepped it up and got my costume act together. There’s never any need to feel forced to opt for a storebought costume — instead, the coolest thing is to attempt to make your own (it also guarantees that you won’t be wearing the same one as someone!). If you’re going as Catwoman, for example, rework a black bodysuit and a pair of black leather leggings for a sexy look, or find a slim-fit jumpsuit that makes you purr.

Back to School. Can you tell I’m really excited about going back to school (except I’m not actually, but I’m all about living vicariously). Going back to school is a whole lot more important than just heading back to class (although that’s important, too) rather, it’s about seeing your friends, sipping on pumpkin spice lattes, and seeing your goals and dreams come one step closer to becoming reality. Don’t dread the work — be excited by it.

Dark colors. As much as I love my summer brights, I love my dark, moody fall colors even more. There’s something particularly awesome about an oxblood or a hunter green — it feels luxurious, high-end, and somewhat regal. Plus, it’s so much easier to slip into a midnight blue than a hot pink, so needless to say, I’m excited about the new color palette for fall. Better yet, I’m excited for all the vampy beauty looks we’ve got coming up: from cranberry-red lips to heavy brows and sultry smokey eyes, this autumn is one for the ages.
