The Early Bird: Rebecca Minkoff Launches Wearable Tech

I’m a self-proclaimed geek: I am a huge nerd about Game of Thrones, Homeland, and Breaking Bad, I used to max out my library card (that’s a thing, guys) with books that I devoured over a span of two weeks, and I cried when I got to Harry Potter world in Florida (I even have a Hogwarts tattoo!). Nerd culture is second nature to me, and it’s just as dear to my heart as fashion and beauty is.

The one thing I was never able to wrap my mind around, however, is wearable tech. It’s not for lack of trying: about a year ago, my boyfriend at the time decided to get a Nike Fuel band. I thought it was super cool and looked pretty darn snazzy on his wrist, but when he asked me if I wanted one as well (there was even a rose gold version, which he tempted me with), I had to decline. No matter how sleek and non-offensive something appeared, I still wasn’t sure about having that on my wrist to only ever take off when I sleep. Unless it could be properly integrated into my arm party, I wanted nothing to do with it. Makes total sense, right?

Rebecca Minkoff, otherwise known as the city girl’s bag guru, is about to release a collection that helps fashionistas get in touch with their nerdy side, as well. Each accessory is wearable tech at its finest — a bracelet that acts as a notification device, or one that doubles as a USB to charge your poor iPhone. What sells these, though, is that they don’t look like tech accessories — rather, they’re totally wearable pieces that can easily be masqueraded as arm candy.

My favorite piece of the collection is easily the notification bracelet. As someone that always has their phone out, I often find myself in hot water with whoever I happen to be with at the time. Whenever I put my phone away, I can’t ever stop thinking about it: am I getting e-mails? Did someone important text me? Did I match with someone on Tinder? Oh, and forget it if I even think my phone is vibrating.

This bracelet will let me know if I’m getting any calls or texts via a Bluetooth pairing directly from my phone. For $120, my peace of mind is so appreciated. If you really can’t be torn apart from your phone, no worries: there’s also a bracelet that doubles as a lightning cable, and it’s $60.

The collection is hitting Nordstrom in early November. Will YOU scoop it up? Let us know in the comments below!
