Splurge vs. Save: A-Line Skirts

In my time working in the fashion industry, I’ve discovered that the fashion industry has a bit of a uniform. It deviates from publication to publication and from editor to editor, but come fashion week, there seems to be a standard that begs to be adhered to. It’s easy to spot an editor: since they’re going to, like, ten shows a day, they are probably wearing something that’s, well, comfortable. To some, that means a pair of skinny black cigarette pants, a pair of pumps, and a fitted top (in either a wild print or an asymmetric cut, like those by Rosie Assoulin). My preferred uniform, though, is either a cropped sweater or a geometric, strappy top, a pair of stilettos from Nicholas Kirkwood or Manolo Blahnik, and a voluminous A-line skirt.

The A-line skirt is one of the most romantic silhouettes out there. There’s something very 50s about it — it’s reminiscent of the poodle skirts that were all the rage at the time, and it’s a much more dramatic take on the figure-hugging skirts we’ve seen worn everywhere in previous seasons.

Unleash your inner Betty Draper with these styles, next! Better yet, they come at every budget, too.
