Estée Lauder Sign Kendall Jenner As New Face

The Kardashian clan (klan?) are continuing their streak of breaking the internet, with news that Estée Lauder had signed model Kendall Jenner to be the new face of the cosmetic giant. Kendall is due to appear in a series of digital, print and television ads while also promoting the brand through their social media channel.

The move is hardly surprising after Kendall’s impressive year walking for Chanel Couture followed by over a dozen runway appearances during Spring 2015. To top that off, Kendall has also amassed an incredible social media following with over 30 million followers across her variety of channels (specifically Twitter, Facebook, and of course, Instagram). It’s a bold move for the brand that’s typically seen as a hit among a more mature crowd, but having Kendall just might be the perk that Estée Lauder needed.

Ever since her first high-fashion gig walking for Marc Jacobs F/W 2014 show, the Jenner girl (or are we not allowed to call her that — she dropped that part of her name, after all) has walked for Balmain (a Kardashian favorite), Fendi, and Dolce & Gabbana. She also has some editorial credentials to boot: W, Vogue Paris, Love, and Interview. She also has a 13-page fashion spread in American Vogue‘s December issue.

It’s hard to figure out what led to the meteoric rise of the model. While sure, part of it can and should be attributed to her infamous last name, she truly has all the markings of a supermodel. Besides being obviously tall and thin, she also has the doe eyes and a bit of a tough-girl edge to her. She’s fascinating, and maybe that’s why the fashion world is so obsessed with her: she made a name for herself, and herself alone — she has shown every indicator that she wants to break away from the family legacy. While it’s not a pitiful position, it is a relatable one, and we can’t help but watch with baited breath as she continues to take the fashion world by storm.
