Furthering My Nursing Education

I've known since I was in elementary school that I wanted to work in the medical field when I 'grew up'. I can't quite pinpoint the exact moment I realized this. I also can't tell you what made me choose that profession as a kid. It just always fascinated me, and I knew it was where I wanted to be. Once I graduated from high school, I started to chase that dream.

When I first started college, my major was pre-med. After a few classes and wondering what I was getting myself into, I changed it to nursing. Lots of personal issues went into play and I never 'finished' my degree. I then decided that I wasn't going to give up, and I made the choice to go to school to get nationally registered as a certified medical assistant. I absolutely loved my classes and each day, and I was reassured that I had chosen the right path. I knew the medical field was where I belonged. I just needed to get my foot in the door.

I still love it, and I'm always craving more. I think the main reason I chose the medical field is because one of my biggest passions is helping other people. If I can do a small task, such as offer a smile or tell you everything is going to be OK then I feel fulfilled for the day. Lucky for me, my job allows me to do this on a daily basis. I enjoy patient interaction on both a personal and a professional level. Not only do I get to put my medical skills I learned to use, but I get to show my patients that I truly care about their well being. Next up is nursing school. As I said earlier, I've already dabbled in the pre-requisite classes, and I have a couple more left until I can apply for the nursing program itself. I believe one of the main reasons I have put it off this long is because the 'unknown' worries me a bit. Am I going to be good at what I do? All I know is I'll always have a passion for medicine and I can't wait to further my nursing education!
