Spring 2014: Beauty Trends To Covet

For most of the country, this winter has been uniquely grueling (I’ll exclude my current home of Los Angeles where every day feels like summer), both on the mind and the body. But as of this Thursday, March 20, it is officially spring. Spring is known as a time of rebirth. After several months in hibernation, life returns – flowers bloom, down jackets and winter boots shed, and our makeup and skincare shifts from dark and brooding to light, bright and airy.

I asked some of my most fashionable friends to discuss the beauty trend and/ or product that’s got them singing spring’s praises. From barely-there makeup to vivid shades of violet, here’s a taste of spring’s most alluring trends:

Sofia Sanchez Barrenechea, Art Director and Founder of underoursky.com
“I loved how in Jason Wu’s AW show all of the girls had very strong, filled-in brows. That’s how I love to do them myself. It has a very masculine feel as well.”
TRY: Anastasia’s Brow Genius Kit for everything you need for thick, full brows.

Stacey Bendet, Creative Director of Alice Olivia
“For spring I’m loving Stila Stay All Day colored lipsticks in shades of dusty to bright pink with a really clean shimmery face. I’m also loving Clarins Eclat Minute to illuminate the skin and give it a light sheen combined with Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick for a glow!”

Maggie Betts, Filmmaker
“Although I never thought I’d say this, I’m actually excited to wear a lot more color this spring, the brighter and bolder the better! For those of us living on the East Coast, and particularly in New York, we’ve pretty much had the most dreary and dismal winter I can remember in some time. Once spring finally does arrive, I look forward to celebrating most vividly with a bright lip.”
TRY: Sephora Pantone Universe Radiant Rush Matte Lipstick for a pop of this season’s Pantone Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid (a similar hue was spotted on the Marchesa Spring 2014 runway).

Shoshanna Gruss, Designer of Shoshanna
“When it comes to spring beauty, I am most excited about the fresh-faced, minimalistic makeup trend seen all over the Spring 2014 Fashion Week runways. To get a natural look, I love using Elizabeth Arden’s Flawless Finish Perfectly Nude Makeup because it keeps my skin hydrated and you can barely notice I’m wearing anything.”

Serena Hood, Executive Fashion Editor at British Vogue
“Spring is the perfect excuse to go lighter and come March I head straight to Bantika Robson for balayage at Josh Wood Atelier in Notting Hill. I’ve been going to Bantika since I moved to London four years ago – I don’t even need to tell her what I want anymore it’s like she can read my mind.
Speaking of going lighter I will also be going ‘whiter’ swapping Chanel’s Rouge Noir nail polish currently on my toes for a shade I picked up in the goody bag at their AW14 Paris show a few weeks ago (Eastern Light 613 white nail polish).”

Kim Meyer, Director of Public Relations, The Wall Group
“The Spring and Summer months are my favorite for beauty, especially in Los Angeles. It’s only mid-March, but these 80 degree days have given me a serious case of Spring fever. I’m excited to minimize my makeup routine – hydrated skin, bronzed complexion, and glossy neutral or pink lips. Simple and sun kissed.”
TRY: Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer Park Avenue Princess Matte and Shiseido Lacquer Gloss In The Flesh for the quintessential spring face.

Dani Stahl, Style Editor-at-Large Nylon Magazine; Creative Director of Keaton Row
“Obsessing over hair colour. Always obsessing over hair colour. Making it a rich golden brown right now. Marie Robinson has done my hair forever and I’ve gone through every hair phase imaginable. But right now, I like Gisele golden meets a touch of Miranda Kerr. Or those were some of the inspiration that I brought to the salon. It turned out amazing. I’ve been slowly going darker-ish. Everything rigt now is happening trend wise on the runways this season ranging from a pretty natural to Chloe Norgaard everywhere, and I’ve basically done the whole spectrum!”
TRY: Garnier Nutrisse Nourishing Multi-Lights Highlighting Kit, and get your beach-hair hue at-home.

Dianne Vavra, Senior VP of Press Relations, Dior Beauty
“I’m looking forward to the launch of Dior Les Extraits. I always switch my fragrance in spring and Diorissimo is my all time favorite. Based on lily-of-the-valley, Mr. Dior’s favorite flower, Diorissimo is a beautiful floral fragrance that is the final touch to my getting ready routine. Whenever I smell it, it reminds me of springtime in Paris!”
TRY: Until the launch, try Miss Dior with notes of Italian mandarin essence, damascena rose absolute, and Indonesian amber patchouli essence.
