Favorites: Grown Up Hair Accessories

Hair accessories are having a serious moment — and these aren’t the Goody barrettes of our youth. This fall, celebrities and fashionistas are dressing up their hair with intricate chains, bedazzling bling, and the occasional floral headdress. So, if you’re growing tired of your usual jewelry, sunglasses, and scarves collection, consider tapping into your inner Blair Waldorf and up your accessories game with some mane accoutrements.

Say you have a special occasion and need a little extra hair jooj… like a third date, a wedding where you’re trying to draw attention away from your fugly bridesmaid dress, or an important work event, follow Sandra Bullock’s lead and slide in some bejeweled hair clips. No, these aren’t the same as the butterfly clips you wore to your BFF’s bat mitzvah – these are mature, fashionable, and perfectly poised. Place Rosantica’s Apache Gold-Dipped clips ($210) on either side of your head to add some glitz to your locks, or the single Rosantica Gold-Dipped Pearl Hair Clip ($275) strategically attached to your chignon. For a less dramatic but equally chic option, try Valentino’s gold tone studded hairclip ($245). Prefer headband to a clip? Taylor Swift wore Deepa Gurnani’s Crystal Braid headband ($88) to jazz up her ‘do. Go for the gold with celebrity favorite Jennifer Behr’s Eris gold-tone headband ($255) and wear with an updo for added embellishments.

Fresh flowers were one of the highlights of the Dolce and Gabbana spring 2015 runway show. While this trend is definitely ideal for a music festival, Alessandra Ambrosio proves that a floral headdress can be worn in your everyday life too. Made-to-order Crowns by Christy are all one of a kind, so request a more delicate option and rock it to a birthday or brunch. If you’d rather not water your floral hair accessories, opt for the Ellen Hunter Scarlett Wreath ($270), a delicate yellow and rose gold headpiece, or Jennifer Behr’s stunning Laurel Leaf Headband ($298). There’s always the DIY route for you artistic types: make your own floral headdress here.

Eva Mendes shows that you can accessorize your hair even if you prefer a ponytail over loose locks. For a polished look, pull your strands back with Top Shop’s Metal Tube Hair Bands ($12) or try Jennifer Behr’s Metallic Leather Thin Ponywrap ($65) in dusted gold.

To keep your hair bling in place, add a bit of texture and shine with Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray ($39).
