#TBT: Cold Cream

Ponds Cold Cream falls into the category of OG beauty products. For countless years, women have sworn by this classic beauty staple’s moisturizing properties and ability to remove makeup, even stubborn, waterproof mascara. It’s been a part of pop culture, too, earning its place in classic films like Red Headed Woman and The Woman. And who can forget that unique scent? It smells medicinal in that way that is particular to cold cream.

While Ponds Cold Cream($8) is still around today (and fans still rave about the results), most people opt for its sister product, the cream-based cleanser because cold cream can tend to be very heavy and contain ingredients like mineral oil that lead to breakouts. Like cold cream however, cream cleansers deep clean while still retaining balanced moisture. Don’t expect a bubbly, soapy feeling when using a cream cleanser. Rather, think of it as an easy way to melt off, as opposed to scrub away, anything that is sitting on your skin. There are tons of formulas, though, so even if you don’t fit that description, you’re bound to find the right clean cleanser for your specific concerns. Here are a few to get you started:

Om Aroma & Co. Perle Cleansing Cream ($48) relies on rosewater to deeply cleanse without any irritation. It also has champagne grape seeds (yes, like your favorite bubbly) to gently exfoliate. You’ll feel refreshed without any stripping or dryness.

For baby soft skin, reach for ReVive Luxe Skin Softening Cream Cleanser ($75). It purifies while moisturizing with Jojoba Seed Oil. While on the pricier side, you only need a tiny amount to clean your whole face, which will be touchably soft after use.

First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser ($20) has an amazing whipped texture that feels fantastic when applied. It is pumped full of antioxidants to reduce skin reactivity. If your skin is freaking out from the cold, try this.
