Dark-skinned Girls Rock!: Jackline

Hey Luvs,

Hope you all are doing lovely and feeling great! Today for the Dark-skinned Girls Rock series, we're featuring Jackline from Sincerely Miss J.

Jackline Everybody meet Jackline! She's a 27 year old Registered Nurse, student by day, and style blogger by night from Toronto, CA!
Describe yourself in 3 words: Smart, Direct, Funny.

Explain your personal style.
Modest, thrifty, fun, and mood sensitive. Sometimes I like wearing colors and patterns, other times I like the monochromatic look. I try to dress according to my day to day life and activities, and according to my budget.

Style Icons? Olivia Palermo & Solange Knowles.

Have you ever struggled with self-identity issues because of your complexion? If so what are some things you did to accept yourself for who you are and love yourself?
Yes. I have had moments where I was bullied or rude comments were thrown my way. It was not only for my complexion but on various things like my kinky hair, my wide nose, my big lips, my skinny frame, and my African descent. I learned to love me first, so when these comments are thrown at me, they slide off. Also, understanding that even the people who say those mean things have other things going on, sometimes it has nothing to do with you, it’s a way to cover their own insecurities.

Do you have any advice for other dark-skinned women that are struggling with accepting themselves because of the color of their skin?
Learn to love yourself and live for yourself and not for others. If you seek approval from everyone you will go crazy. We are all running our own race, avoid looking behind you or beside you, and keep looking forward.

What do you like most about being dark-skinned?
To me it’s not about being dark-skinned or whatever. Regardless of my color I love who I am, who I have become, my features, and the hard work I have put into getting where I am today and overcoming obstacles.

Thank you so much Jackline for participating in the series!! Love how you said "learn to love yourself and live for yourself and not for others."Ain't that the truth! Don't get caught up living your life for someone else. You only have one life to live and you should live it to the fullest and the way you want to! Don't let another person's ignorance about your skin color affect your livelihood.
