Matte vs Shimmery

I'm hoping to revive this blog (eep at the falling # of my followers~), but seriously I have Z E R O ideas on what to write about.. mostly because I haven't bought anything new for the last couple of months. And seriously, the last thing on my mind nowadays is slapping on even more makeup on my face. THE HEAT IS NO BUENO. I can deal with a little tinted moisturizer (Jouer Matte Moisture Tint; a Godsend), groomed eyebrow, some blush and a dash of lip color. But layers of mascara? Slapping on concealer? Contour? Highlight? Eye makeup? Blaaagh no thanks.

But today, I braved the heat; and ~experimented. Or at least I tried to do something.. for a change.

Just like everyone, my first foray to eyeshadow includes shimmery, frosty eyeshadow. Shimmery shadow, for me, is something that you wear to parties & events. It's fun. It's young. It's glamorous. Or at least, it can be if you apply it correctly. Too much and you'd end up like you have a disco ball on your eyelids... not a good look, I have to tell you. Also, you have to deal with fallout.. Lots and lots of it.

My favorite combination as of now is: Nature Republic #12 for the lid, NARS Galapagos on the crease & UD Dark Horse on the outer corner lower lash line.

While I love shimmery eye makeup, over the few months, I have fallen head over heels in love with matte eyeshadow. For me, matte eyeshadow is the sophisticated older sister of shimmery eyeshadow. It's something you wear to a date, or a meeting. So far, I've had just a few problems when it come to using matte shadows (ie some are quite dry and chalky); but they do tend to last longer than shimmery shadows and no fallouts! So you win some, you lose some. But at least you look frigging fabulous, and that's all that matters in the end, right?

Here I'm wearing: NARS Bellisima on the lid, MAC Espresso on my crease, NARS Coconut Grove on the outer corner.

So which one do you gravitate towards more? Matte or shimmery? :)
