Lessons in Design: Decorating with Warm Walls

Decorating with Warm Walls

There has been a pretty substantial trend toward cool toned walls and white walls in the last few years. The look is fresh and crisp and light-reflecting. It is gorgeous and ditto worthy.

This trend toward the white and crisp has left warm walls in the dust. But for some, the love for a warm glow does not come and go with the trends.

It is to that end that I want to revisit some amazing rooms that are saturated in warmth, and offer

3 simple tips for decorating with warm walls

Warm walls are best when the room also offers some element of contrast to all of that enveloping warmth. Here are some great ways to contrast your warm walls for a designer look:

1. Offer elements of white.

The large white art piece breaks boldly into the warmth for a beautiful balance;

Even a room filled-to-the-brim with warmth {this pic was shared in my Pantone Color of the Year post last week} gets a breath of fresh air with crisp white pillowcases and white lamp shades:

White shutters, white art matting, white pattern on the walls, a crisp white chair, white lamps, and a stunning white horse head all add the perfect resting point for your eyes in this gorgeous warm room:

2. Contrast Warm Walls with Blue:

Bold cobalt blue offers a bright contrast to the warm, wood toned walls:

Even with all this blue, this children’s room feels warm and cozy thanks to the texture and the soft warm-brown of the walls:

The pops of blue in this design board below offer the perfect contrast to this warm, cozy space:

And for those who don’t desire a contrast, but instead want to go all-out with pure warmth:

3. Live up the warm walls with Tone on Tone:

soft yellow-greens everywhere bathe this dreamy space in warmth:

Warm beiges and tans layer on top of each other for a soothing space:

Warm naturals and textures fill this space, creating a comfortable and welcoming entry:

Warm ivory walls get warmer with each new layer of fabric that is draped into the space:
