Kids App Review: Toca Pet Doctor

There is always much excitement in our house when a new Toca Boca app is released, and at the end of Febuary Toca Pet Doctor (affiliate link) arrived on the scene. If you (or your child) has already played Toca Doctor they will find Toca Pet Doctor plays in a very similar way, although it feels somehow “newer” than the older game.

In Toca Pet Doctor your child is the vet helping out a series of different pets with a variety of predicaments. There’s Pickles the pigeon, who has a broken wing; Pop the spiky iguana, who’s eaten too many flies; Brie the hiccupping mouse, and Tofu the rabbit, who’s got himself into a bit of a scrape, to name but a few. Each animal has their own unique activity which your child must complete to restore them to health. But they are not finished when they’ve done that, for after the animal is feeling better it needs a healthy meal, and another mini game follows where your child feeds the animal.

Toca pet doctor encourages your child to care for the animals, and also helps your child learn about different animals and what they like to eat. It has a simple interface, and my kids found it very intuitive – they never had any problems figuring out what they needed to do to cure each animal. I like the open-ended play – your child can select any animal they like to cure from the waiting room:

As with all Toca Boca apps there is no in-app advertising or in-app purchases. Toca Pet Doctor is aimed at children aged between 2 and 6 years old, and I can confirm that both my almost-4-year-old and my 6 year old love it. Another top quality Toca Boca app, which comes highly recommend by the geek family.

Toca Pet Doctor is a Universal iOS app, so will run on your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It costs £1.99 and can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store (affiliate link).

Disclosure: We were provided with a free copy of Toca Pet Doctor for review purposes. Links to the iTunes App Store on this page contain my affiliate details, and if you make a purchase after clicking one I will receive a very small commission payment.
