Designer Craft Connection Blog Hop: No-Sew Stamped Bunnies Play Set with Matching Basket Bag

I have made a promise to get a jump on the holidays this year! (I still - I mean - I already have my Christmas decorations up! :) ) Actually right now I have Easter on my brain so for the March Designer Craft Connection Blog Hop I decided to make this little bunnies and carrots stamped play set. It's super easy to make and requires no sewing! Being part of Ann Butler's Design Team, I got to play with her gorgeous line of stamps and Springtime colored ink pads. Even if you don't have kids, this would make a cute way to package a gift card, DVD or CD. Or add a handful of candy Peeps or chocolate eggs for a fresh take on the traditional Easter basket!

Here's how:

Stamped Bunnies Play Set with Matching Basket Bag

Materials:

Tools:

Instructions:

1. To make a nice ink paint, use your paintbrush to mix some Sunshine ink with a few drops of water in the stamp pad lid. Paint both sides of the bag leaving the handles white. (**Tip - Slip a piece of cardboard inside the canvas bag to give you a nice flat surface.)

2. Attach the plaid stamp to acrylic block. Stamp Tangelo ink across both sides of the bag. (I love how juicy the Crafter's Ink stamp pads are!)

3. Cut the Multi-Purpose Cloth into three pieces each 4" wide. For the two bunnies, use a diamond stamp to stamp one cloth piece with Berry and one piece with Lilac. To make the carrots, cut the third cloth piece in half. Ink the picnic weave stamp with Limelight and stamp the top 2" of the two blank cloth pieces. Stamp the bottom part of the two cloth pieces with Tangelo using a diamond stamp.

4. Cut the Berry and Lilac cloth pieces in half. Cut a piece of Phoomph the same size as one of the Berry cloth pieces. Phoomph has two adhesive sides each covered with a paper release sheet. Peel one paper release sheet from the Phoomph and adhere it to the backside of one of the Berry pieces. Peel the second paper release sheet from the Phoomph and adhere it to the remaining Berry piece to make a cloth sandwich. Repeat for the Lilac and Tangelo cloth pieces.

5. Make a simple rabbit pattern on a piece of notepaper and trace it onto the Berry and Lilac cloth sandwiches with the fabric marker. Draw two carrots on the Tangelo cloth sandwiches. Cut the shapes out.

6. Add details to the cut shapes with the fabric marker. Don't forget the bunny tails!

7. Add a flower and details to the bag with the fabric marker. Finish off by gluing on two buttons.

This was such a fun project to make! I really enjoyed stamping on the fabric and then adding details with the Tulip fabric marker. The Multi-Purpose Cloth is a lovely lovely surface for stamping all those luscious Crafter's Inks. I think I may want to make a few more of these in different color combinations and personalized with family names. Bunnies for everyone!

NOTE - If you want to make this for smaller children, heat set the inks with an iron after stamping. Then sew the shapes together with batting in-between instead of using Phoomph (it's not washable.) Lastly, you'd want to sew on the buttons instead of using glue. Enjoy!!
