as if our lives haven’t had enough unexpectedness since Hazel was born, our next few months are forecasting a lot of changes themselves.

one of the biggest changes is that we decided to homeschool Hollis for kindergarten next year. but it’s not going to look like what you probably are picturing in your head right now.

around the time of Hazel’s surgery (just a week before, actually), i went to a parent information meeting at a local private Christian academy in our area. this school is completely different than anything i had ever heard or seen before. they follow a University Model and are a type of hybrid between homeschooling and traditional private school. the kids in the younger grades go to school two times a week and then are homeschooled the other three days at home by their parent(s). as the kids get older, they go three times a week and take on more independent study work that prepares for a university schedule upon graduation.

for us, it was exactly what i had been wanting without even knowing i wanted it or that it even existed. going into the info meeting, i was convinced that we couldn’t afford it anyway, but by the time i left the meeting, i was sending in my resume’ and applying for a teaching job myself!

i interviewed a few days before Hazel’s surgery and got the call for teaching 1st grade a few days after we got home from the hospital!

what a whirlwind it all was, but i could see the Lord moving in ways only He can. everything has worked together so well, even up to the little details. the other kids will be able to be on campus with the school’s preschool program, the tuition is affordable, and i get to use my teacher brain again!

to say that i’m excited for our family is an understatement.

that said, i’m also really aware that this is our last summer of us all being together all the time. yes, sometimes i just want to sit down without three babes piling on top of me, but most times i just want to savor and enjoy these last few months with my three pre-schoolers who show me each day what it means to be a true teacher.
