Dermalogica Face Map Our Nation Campaign

There’s something about Dermalogica products that I find very alluring; I think it’s their no-nonsense, “this means business” packaging that says to me that whatever product is contained within is going to do good things to my skin. Also, Dermalogica are renowned for their generosity with samples, which tells me that they obviously have genuine faith in their products if they’re willing to giveaway samples with the idea that the products will be so good that you’ll come back and buy the full-size equivalent. If you’re unfamiliar with Dermalogica and fancy giving them a go, or you’ve fallen into a skincare rut, or even if your current skincare routine isn’t quite delivering in the way you’d hoped, it’s time to get face-mapped.

I went to have my very own face-mapping earlier this week at Dermalogica, Brent Cross. The idea of the face-mapping is that they break down each segment of your face to establish what’s going in in that particular segment, then a product prescription is put together based on that. It’s a very informal and easy experience where your Dermalogica Consultant will have a quick look and feel of your skin whilst wearing some intensely flattering magnifying glasses (see above – HOT) before sharing her thoughts with you. You can then either build a full regime based on the recommendations, or just try a few products to tackle a specific concern; the three products in the top image are recommended for me to tackle dryness and dehydration. I’m suffering from pretty bad dehydration still, but interestingly my chin area is dry rather than dehydrated, which I’m guessing is from years of harsh spot-fighting treatments since my chin has always been my biggest problem area.

Once you’ve got your product recommendations, you can actually go through the whole application process with your consultant if it’s something you think you’d benefit from; whilst it might be easy to dismiss such an experience, I do think most of us learn how to use skincare from reading the back of product packaging in our teens, so chances are we’ve developed some bad habits without even knowing it and sitting down with an expert could rectify this. However, you don’t have to do this and you can instead take away your sample sachets and make a start on your routine. There’s no hard-sell – in fact quite the opposite as you’re instead encouraged to go away and try the samples before committing to any purchases. This is such an important element of what makes Dermalogica such a credible skincare brand; they’re long-term thinkers who want customers who will come back again and again, which they achieve by giving you the recommended products for free and letting you decide if you think they’re for you. The Face-Mapping is completely free and you get your samples at the end, which the whole experience taking no more than 20 minutes. It appears to be happening at pretty much every Dermalogica stockist, so if you know your nearest one then pop along and get mapped. There’s an incredibly unhelpful list of all participants here – link – which you can’t seem to search, so if you have the patience to keep clicking through to find your nearest stockist then that’s where you’ll find it.
