Rio Hydra-Masque
Rio are one of the leaders in the market of beauty gadgetry and I’ve been having a play with their latest release, the Hydra-Masque. The Rio Hydra-Masque is two part system that includes a hand-held galvanic treatment roller as well as a set of three jelly sheet masks, the latter of which you can buy separately.
Regular readers will know that I’ve been battling with some serious dehydration recently, and I’ve finally cracked my main skincare problem (how many times have I said that…?) which is that if my skin is well hydrated, everything else will tend to settle down and I’ll get less angry spots, plus my pigmentation will look less obvious. I do really feel that skin in general will work at its very best when it’s got the right level of hydration and this includes oily, spotty skin that can still be dehydrated, so anything that’ll help with that gets a thumbs-up from me.
The Rio Hydra-Masque involves applying the Intense Therapy Mask – a jelly sheet mask – and then using the included roller over the mask for a set period of time. The mask itself comes in two parts, both of which have been richly soaked in hyaluronic acid. A word of warning, this part of the process is extremely messy as you have to separate each part and apply it to the face which is not easy at all.
On top of that, the masks are very heavy and tend to slide around a bit as you can see in the immensely flattering picture of me in the mask. I would recommend doing this when you can have a lay down otherwise you’re going to find it hard work.
The two part mask has a bit that goes over the eyes and nose and another part that goes on the lower part of the face. After this you work the gadget over the face in a rolling motion which works the hyaluronic acid into the skin. The roller device has 10 settings in total which you can alter depending on your preference, but whilst you can definitely feel the higher level, it isn’t painful and instead feels more like a static sensation.
You use the device over the mask for 8 minutes each on the upper and lower face before discarding the mask and working the rest of the product into the skin with the device. I don’t love the idea that you have to keep buying masks to use alongside the device, but I feel that the product is being sold as optimally used with the masks, which I would assume means that it works well alongside other treatments too, such as hyaluronic serums, or pretty much anything that you want to force further into the skin.

The Rio Hydra-Masque really does work. It forces moisture into the skin really effectively, which leaves a plump, smooth and well-hydrated finish. If you really battle with hydration problems then this is a truly quick fix that balances parched skin and does exactly as it promises without causing any other issues such as breakouts or oiliness.
It is extremely expensive at £149 (plus £25 for 5 masks after you use the initial 3) which is a shame as I think it would sit better at around the £70 – £90 mark, but if your skin is in desperate need of hydrating help and you don’t mind splashing the cash then the Rio Hydra-Masque is a very safe bet.
