Flora Botanica

So here’s something I’ve been holding onto for a good couple of weeks now, and well worth the wait. Perhaps, not what you would have expected from my barely-there behind-the-scenes ‘gram, but voilàwe have my favourite shoot to date, by a fantastic team that I’ve been wanting to work with for a while. And for ELLE.com no less.

The first thing that comes to mind when a brief says ‘floral story’,

is Miranda Priestly. The second is a model camouflaged amongst blooms as Dolce & Gabbanna as her floaty chiffon dress, white blonde locks and fuchsia lips. Unfortunately, I’m neither a dress person, nor a blonde (though I had contemplated and dismissed the idea a few months ago). And, fuchsia really is not my colour. Myra and Jenna were absolute magicians – every time I turned around, the set had completely transformed to perfection, with such precise distribution of colour, texture, and volume, that I kind of wished they’d make me a gown out of the stuff. I loved, too, that the girls brought new life to dried blooms – a form of recycling I’d never really thought about, and will now be trying my hand with my current load of fresh flowers in the house.*

Hell, my job ended up being the least complicated – putting together transeasonal all-black looks (that I’ve elaborated more on in the full story, here), and chilling on a throne of art.

*Myra says the key is to take them out of water as soon as they start yellowing at the edges, and keep them in a dry spot like your garage, out of the sun.
