Take it away friends…

Many people enjoy having plants in their home to add some color and interest. Plants are not just there to be looked at though. In order to be at their best they need to be well cared for.

Caring for a house plant is not difficult, it just needs some thought and a little effort. It is well worthwhile in order to maintain a house full of color. But what sort of things do you need to consider when caring for some of the most popular house plants?

Petunia

If you want plenty of flowers the petunia is an excellent plant to have in your home; it is also relatively easy to care for. The one disadvantage is that some people don’t really like its distinctive smell. Petunias usually have a mass of blooms creating a really beautiful display.

Straight after blooming you need to cut the plant right back; do not be afraid to leave just a few inches from the root. You should also repot the plant, or feed it with a good liquid fertilizer. Doing all of this will ensure that it will soon spring up with new growth and bloom again.

Heliotrope

For a wonderful scent in your home, the heliotrope is difficult to beat, but that doesn’t mean that its flowers are any less colourful. The heliotrope can have flowers of various colors including white and purple. If you want a plant that will bloom in winter the heliotrope is ideal, as long as you start the young plants growing in February, or cut back old plants at the same time.

After doing this you need to pinch out any buds that grow and keep the plants partially shaded throughout the summer.

Heliotropes do not like change so avoid altering the temperature in which they are kept, the soil, or the watering routine. As long as you maintain their usual existence heliotrope should continue to grace your home. You can learn about getting your own heliotrope at Gaddys Indoor Plant Hire.

Begonia

Begonias are a truly beautiful and graceful house plant; their blooms are not just colorful, but are also perfectly formed. They are also quite easy to grow.

Begonias are not that easy to grow from seed; once you have a plant you can then take a leaf or stem cutting; new plants are easy to produce by this method. For species that have large, patterned leaves you should select an old leaf and cut it into triangular pieces all of which should have a piece of one of the main leaf ribs at one corner. The cuttings should have sides of approximately three inches. The corner containing the piece of leaf rib should be placed in water, or a sand tray, to root.

When a begonia finishes blooming reduce the amount of water it is given and keep it cool through the summer months; in September is should start to bloom again and your home will once again be a beautiful sight.

Such awesome tips. What are your favorite indoor plants? Any tips?
