Runway Review: Monique Lhuillier Spring 2015

What can be said about the magnificent display of enchanting whimsy that was Monique Lhuillier’s Spring 2015 runway show? A collection full of pastels and the colors of the sunrise that will easily be remembered as one of her finest, the ballgown enthusiast pulled out all the stops with her signature silhouette but at the same time showed growth in an entirely different category, day-wear. Riffing off of her day-time friendly Resort collection, garden-party dresses with floral appliques, iridescent silk voile long sleeve blouses tucked into sunrise printed trousers and drop waisted shirtdresses brought a new wave (and a new customer) to the Monique Lhuillier brand. To match her new ensembles and silhouettes came with it a multitude of new fabrics. Of course there was an abundance of lace, tulle and organza but fun surprises like liquid satin, scuba, coated mesh and waffle weaves showed up in wide-leg cropped pants, rompers and mild crop tops layered over coordinated strapless dresses. As the show continued, it slowly descended into jaw-dropping evening wear that showcased what seemed like mille layers of tulle, floral prints and precisely placed beading making the little girl in all of us want to snatch them off the runway immediately so we could twirl the night away in them.
