Runway Review: Emilia Wickstead

This season, the talented Emilia Wickstead turned to retro references. There was a nod to ‘glitzy eighties nocturne’, whilst music and the designer’s own flashbacks of her youth too provided inspiration.

A palette of bright orange, yolk yellow and futuristic, glistening transparencies felt fanciful and light-hearted. Typical Wickstead elements were there – the delicate wide stripe; swathes of silk satin on a gown with plunging back; trapeze shapes dancing around the model’s body. Though this collection felt fresh and sharper – structure was a focal point with straight pockets and accentuated seams – even a swim-meets-romper had a tailored feel to it.

Silver dresses provided reoccurring glamour, adored by the attending press, buyers and fans. Our highlight had to be the iridescent sleeveless maxi dress, with it’s contrasting sharp neckline and fluid A-line skirt.
