Runway Review: Anthony Vaccarello

Anthony Vaccarello‘s spring/summer 2015 collection was quite simply about sex. Unmistakably shocking and evocative, the designer continues his game-changing exploration of functional yet tantalizing party dresses and micro minis.

The show opens with a line-up of explosive femme fetales in stiff skinny minis adorned with large typography, instead of his usual hardware and brass eyelets. The fragmented letters with a simple message (his brand name) were a theme running through the entire collection, adding a slight sense of protest and granted credibility. The underground, graffiti covered hall at Institut Francais de la Mode, where the show took place, was the ideal backdrop for Vaccarello‘s SS2015 riot. This season the designer explored new textures and fabrics, as well as techniques like draping to create fluidity in otherwise constrictive shapes. His silk slip dresses with plunging necklines and thigh-high slits, moved freely and beautifully to the beat.

Vaccarello‘s shocking yet sensual collection left the audience gasping for more, yet his not-so-subtle sexual energy seemed infectious.
