Gifts to my Child-A Mother Speaks...Blogadda and HDFC-1001 Gifts

Its that time of the year again...
The time where one must begin to count ones blessings.
For me,this time is special...
Its time to plan Sweet Child's birthday that comes up just as the new year begins. Its time to remember the birth pains and the moment of joy as I first held him in my arms. That tiny bundle of joy is going to turn 14 soon .Certainly not tiny anymore , that bundle is quite painful very often. But all that pain notwithstanding, the love just deepens.
And the desire to do ever more for him and shower all my blessings on him is overwhelming some of the time.
I'd love to shower more than my blessings on him...
Hubby dear and I have done all the necessary planning and the child insurance stuff ,but then there is always a thought, have we catered for enough?
There is so much more I can give to him...

1. A secure home,Confidence, self esteem and the guts to stand up and ask.
I wish to gift to my child the belief of coming from a secure and a happy home. His trust in us,his parent's love for each other and him will make him a wholly confident and complete person. Only then will his self esteem be high. Only then will he have faith in himself and in his fellow beings. That confidence and faith in himself will ensure that he never has to bear any injustice or witness any injustice done to a weaker being in front of him.I want him to be strong and honest and fearless.

2. An Education and a thirst for knowledge.
I wish to gift Sweet Child the access to quality education. an education he can bank upon. an education that will help him grow in life. An education that will help him advance in his career, or to step away from the beaten path and maybe enter a profession different from the run of the mill. I wish to gift him a thirst for knowledge that is insatiable. His need to know more should not stop when the chapter ends. I wish to gift him that little niggling desire to know just a little bit more, and like a number line,I wish that it never has a last point.

3. A world that is free of disease and poverty and war and faith in the Almighty .
I wish I was Bruce Almighty for a day...
I'd remove all traces of disease and poverty from the earth. Just so that my child could believe that God is actually like a parent, looking out for all, ensuring that all the children of God have enough on their plate and enough faith. And then this would ensure that Sweet Child's faith in the Almighty never falters. You know, faith can move mountains.

4. A gift of the ability of discerning how to use his TIME well.
A commodity more precious than money. A commodity that rules they way yo must lead you must lead your life. A commodity responsible for your well being and stress free life. I wish him the time to prioritise his life and live it accordingly. I wish that he is able to define what is most important to him and live accordingly. I wish that he does not make his studies and then his career and his drive to be successful the most important thing in his life. I wish his dedication allows him to be true to his goals and focus and also take the time to smell the roses. I wish he follows Aamir Khan's pearls of wisdom from the "3 Idiots" - "Success ke piche mat bhago...Excellence ko haasil karo...Success jhak maar ke tumhare piche aayegi".I wish he works for that excellence...Success will follow in his footsteps.

5. I wish him Satisfaction and Peace and Happiness and the will to Share.
There is no end to desires. No end to wanting and no end to wishing. I wish that he always has that hunger to attain more but is able to restrain himself and know when to stop. Over indulgence will only cause health problems...
I wish him peace and happiness and the ability to share with his fellow beings... because problems are reduced and happiness multiplied when shared. I wish him the ability to share his blessings...

And maybe some day look back on these indelible marks that I leave behind for him on the Internet and smile, maybe wish the same for his children to come...

This one little bit that I keep on my smart phone is a snippet I took from pinterest. A little regret that I never spent all my happiness with my child...
I keep this as my new year resolution this year and know that I will at least go 20% of the way that this little poem says and make happier memories with Sweet Child for us to bank upon tomorrow .
After all warm hearts are made of things like this.

A poem from a mother to her son. If I had my child to raise all over again I'd build self esteem first and the house later. I'd finger paint more and point the finger less. I'd do less correcting and more connecting. I'd take my eyes off my watch and watch with my eyes. I'd care to know less and know to care more. I'd take more hikes and fly more kites. I'd run through more fields and gaze at more stars. I'd see the oak tree in the acorn more often. I'd be firm less often and affirm much more. I'd model less about the love of power, and more about the power of love. Chief Dan George
Thank you blogadda for this little opportunity to count my blessings and wish for some happiness.
