Sunshine and Lemon Rice

September is a lovely time of the year. Transitions, studies and papers to be checked and food ,beautiful food. And breakfast under the trees.
After almost six months of uncomfortable heat and humidity ,one can finally sit in the lawn and watch the squirrels try to pull a handkerchief to the tree to line their nests, or a warbler or two fight over the wild ivy fruits on the fence. So breakfast had to be in God's fresh air.

A tad South Indian, Lemon Rice needs little chutney for company. Coconut is great ,but too much effort. Ketchup saves the day. Anyday.
Healthy and balanced ,its a beautiful way of using up the last meals rice.
for the
Sunshine and Lemon Rice...
you need
1 cup cooked rice 1 tsp soaked chana and urad dal (optional) 1 tsp mustard seeds 2 spriģs curry leaves 1 fistful more or lesa raw peanuts Some green chillies chopped Salt to taste 1 tsp turmeric powder 1 tsp ginger chopped Juice of 2 lemons 1 tsp oil or ghee Coriander to garnish
Sweet Child has a south Indian bug sometimes, every thing must be that flavor. Since these are studying times, I soak the dals and freeze. So get the stuff ready and put the pan on. Oil in the pan and allow it to heat to smoking point. Put the soaked ,drained dals in and fry rill they take on some colour.

When the dals are done ,add the mustard and allow the seeds to pop. Add in the peanuts and toss about for a moment or two to allow them to toast.
Curry Leaves in...
Now the chillies and chopped ginger and salt and turmeric powder. Toss about on medium heat.
In with the rice and the coriander, if you are using it.

Allow the rice to cool and squeeze the lemons over. See it doesn't have to be tequila every time.

Serve in a pretty dish and enjoy.
Serene surroundings and good food and a load of books...
Good life.
If only education was not so painful...Painful for the parent, to re learn.
Crash and burn situation.

So what are you eating today???
