Project Declutter: Master Bedroom

Day 1: Master Bedroom

I decided to start with the master bedroom for my declutter month. The clothes have been overtaking our room. Plus, it’s about time I go through it all, since I’m starting my 2nd trimester and needed to start wearing maternity shirts! Time to rearrange and declutter my clothes!

As I mentioned yesterday, below is the brief synopsis of the process I’m going through for each room:

1) Set the timer for 30-50 minutes.

All the clothes I am donating!

2) Go through every drawer, cupboard, closet, etc.

3) Write down to-do, notes, etc.

4) Once timer is up, stop.

I slightly varied this process since I wanted to go through ALL of my clothes at once and I was trying on things to see if they still fit. I decided just to work as long as Ain was napping (and he napped for 2 hours!!). I went through all my dresser drawers and hanging clothes.

I was able to put all my non-maternity clothes in my bottom drawer, second drawer has my exercise clothes and pants, and top drawer has all my camisoles, bras, and underwear. In the past my hanging clothes have just been organized by shirts/sweaters in one section, skirts/pants, and then dresses and winter clothes. This time, as I was able to really purge and get rid of stuff I haven’t worn, I had a lot more open space in the closet. Check it out!!

Since I had more extra space, I organized my clothes into these categories: casual and dressy, short sleeve and long sleeve categories. This way I can tell at a quick glance that I don’t have very many dressy long sleeve shirts, for example. You can also see in the picture above that I hung my hangers backwards. Then, whenever I wear an item of clothing, I will switch the hanger around so it is facing forward. So, next time I go through my closet I will see for sure which clothes I don’t wear.

It’s so nice to have a cleaner closet! Tomorrow I will be tackling the pile in front and on top of my dresser. See you tomorrow!
