Models Own Polish for Tans Collection

Having family living in London has its perks. Apart from always having a fantastic vacation spot as needed, I'm also have an aunt who keeps me hooked up with all the latest British brands and trends from across the pond. When the Models Own Polish for Tans Collection was released, she went and picked them all up for me. I'm a very lucky girl.

Word of warning for most formulas in this collection: they are thick and stringy. A little thinner (okay, maybe a lot of thinner) and consistent shaking of the bottle is required to get an even coat applied. The brush is easy to work with, but because the polish dries pretty quickly being neon, you really have to be fast in applying each coat, even with thinner and shaking. However, unlike most neons, millions of coats or underwear is not required. Two to three coats, and the polishes are all super opaque.

Sun Hat
I've worn this twice already this summer so this must mean I've taking a liking to Sun Hat. It's a delicious neon bubblegum pink but not searingly so (fyi, none of these in the collection are eye-searing, which is a nice change of pace for neon collections this summer). I'd compare this to a brighter version of Zoya Kitridge or its dupe L'oreal Acid Watermelon. But boy the formula. Thinner is definitely needed with this one.

Beach Bag
I love any peach colored so Beach Bag became my instant favorite. A muted neon (if that's possible?), Beach Bag had the best and most even formula and required absolutely no thinner for adequate application. If I actually had a tan, this one would really be a standout against my skin tone. Winner, right here.

Shades
So first of all I must apologize. I didn't realize when I swatched that the green of Flip Flop (below) left such terrible residue in my cuticles when I photographed Shades. I tried really hard to clean my cuticles, but in the end, this is the best I could get (more on the stain factor when I review Flip Flop below). However, Shades is another awesome color. A muted neon coral, it too had a smooth formula that didn't require thinner. I wish it was just a smidge brighter for a better effect, but I can't really complain since I do love me a good coral.

Bikini
The standout in this collection is terms of wow factor is definitely Bikini. This is a true, in your face, highlighter yellow neon creme. For some reason, all my photographs (and I've photographed this a few times: see here and on my instagram feed) make this lean a bit more banana yellow than it actually is. Please believe me, ladies, when I say this is a true neon yellow. The formula with some thinner becomes really easy to work with and I recommend using three coats to just clean up any bald patches. Like the rest of the polishes swatched so far, does not dry matte, which I really loved. Bikini is the ultimate summer yellow.

Flip Flop
I'm leaving the worst for last. A neon chartreuse (ugh), this applied terribly: even after thinner and shaking and multiple attempts to swatch, this is the best I could get for Flip Flop. Unlike the rest of the collection, this dries matte and streaky and refuses to leave clean lines around the cuticle edge. And what's worse, it stains! Despite tons of polish remover, the skin around my cuticle just stayed jaundiced yellowy green looking to the point where I had to take my cuticle clippers (I know, so bad) and cut off as much of the greened dead skin I could. Even if you looooove greens of all types and shades, I'd say pass on this one. It's just not worth the aggravation.
