February Goals

Happy, Happy Sunday! I’m finally back home after Week 3 of traveling and racing in a row and, I have to admit, I am ready to do absolutely nothing. After being thoroughly unproductive for the past few days, my Type A, always ambitious, do-work-or-else personality is not handling this “do nothing” feeling very well.

Let’s be honest– do you REALLY cut yourself some slack and take whole days off? Is that even possible in today’s creative and competitive environment? Getting on my first flight home this morning, I wrestled with the decision: do I pull out my laptop, buy in-flight wifi, and try to knock out some projects and emails… or do I let myself sink into my much-neglected novel and read for a few hours? (I chose the latter). Now I’m back home and I’d much rather zone out watching Netflixs than even glance at my to-do list! But anxiety has quickly taken over and here I am.

On top of that internal battle, I am trying my best to recover from last night’s race in Boston and prep for tomorrow’s workout here in South Carolina AND stay fresh for a race next Saturday in Iowa– my biggest one of this 4-week-racing period. (Back to the “do nothing” anxiety: I like to think I can get one or two non-running things done on race days, but the past three have been a wash– although the races have gone spectacularly.) “You’re a different athlete than you were the last two years” is the comment I’ve received the most over these past few weeks and it feels amazing to FINALLY have this whole professional running thing under control.

Anyway– on to the goals for the month. I know it’s a super short one and we’re barreling through it, but setting intentions is great anytime, any place…

1. Confidence Cohen. (Yes, that line is from The OC– judge away!) This applies to my last race of the month and to everything else. Confidence in everything should always be the status quo.

2. Do all the little things. Roll my legs out every night. Ice any sore spots after every practice. Really dedicate myself to answering email every day. Reach out to people I want to feature. Wash the dishes after every meal! Once these little things fall by the wayside, it’s all downhill…

3. Finish this redesign! If my blog redesign is not up and running this month, I’m going to shut this whole thing down… argh! The delay is all on me (I have an AMAZING designer working with me who is putting up with my start-and-stop stuttering) and if I can’t get it together, my priorities are not in line.

What are your goals for February? How has your year been going thus far? Any adventures on the horizon? And– any tips on how to relax once in awhile?
