union station in denver

I was feeling a little worn out over the weekend; late nights working, early morning runs, and chasing after Raffa in between have been leaving me feeling a little drained. I was in the mood to hang around the house, which we did quite a bit of and it was lovely. Raffa was content to play around the house and with a few walks, errands, and excursions in between, it allowed me to relax, at least a little or as much as a mama of a toddler can relax.

Our excursions took us to Union Station. John and I had gone to Stoic & Genuine, a seafood restaurant there for our 7th anniversary dinner and had been wanting to go back to explore more. The holiday weekend was the perfect opportunity to take Raffa and check it out. We actually went Sunday and Monday, too, so that we could fully explore this newly restored and renovated architectural and historic treasure.

On Sunday, we walked around and checked everything out. We got some coffee and some ice cream. We went to the Tattered Cover newstand and got a dog magazine to look at (Raffa's pick).

There are a couple of cute shops, which we browsed. I loved the rugs, greeting cards, pillows, and table linens at Bloom.
After exploring the inside, we let Raffa run around outside for a while. His activity of choice was trying to make a mess of the landscaping rocks.
Before heading home, we walked over the the Tattered Covered Book Store and browsed the kids' book section. John had never been, so we took a whole loop around the store as well.
On Monday, my mom came back with us and we went hungry for burgers at Acme Burger & Brat Corporation.

The burgers were good, but I have to be honest and say they weren't any where near the best I have had. But, they were tasty enough. The fries were very delicious, and that's what Raffa ate for lunch, since he had no interest in the burgers.

We also came hungry for ice cream, again, and headed over to Milkbox Ice Creamery after lunch. We shared two scoops between the two of us - malted chocolate and salted Oreo.

We ate our ice cream outside and let Raffa run around some more. He made a friend and found a bottle cap.
Union Station is a really, really neat place. I am so impressed by the restoration they did because it looks fantastic. It really is true, they just don't build places like this anymore. Union Station is a real gem for Denver; for residents and tourists alike it is a destination for some great causal and finer dining, as well as coffee, ice cream, the splash pad, the newsstand, some boutiques, and even a hotel.
